Sathya in Ghatam Karthick’s heArtbeat team at Isha Foundation 26th Feb 06 Sivarathri Celebrations.

Sathya had a great Sivarathri experience on the 26th night with the opportunity to perform in Ghatam Karthick’s ‘heartbeat’ for Isha Foundation’s Sivarathri celebrations at Veliangiri, Coimbatore.

Just after the performance of Remo Fernandez and party at 415 am on the 27th Feb’06 the heartbeat team headed by S Karthick on the ghatam comprising Embar S Kannan on violin and Sathya on the keyboard for melody and Sri Poongulam Subramanian on the mrudhangam, Gopalakrishnan on the Kanjeera, Kalaimamani A. S. Krishnan on the morsing and Sri Sowrirajan on the thavil performed an inspiring concert.

The team started with a traditional Mallari – ragam Gambeera nattai set to Kandajathi thiruputa thalam with all four kalapramanams and straight away won the hearts of the audience and in particular that of Sathguru Jaggi Vasudev who applauded the team. They went on to play few electrifying numbers on ragams Rathipathipriya, Vanaspathi and Srothaswani. Embar Kannan gave a brief alapana for all the numbers and in Srothaswani Sathya also played and exhibited his prowess of playing gamakas during his alapana. This number had the thani avarthanam where each one of the percussion artist excelled each other.

Ghatam Karthick’s singing also was well received particularly the Siva sthothra presented by him as the last item in which the audience involved themselves and chanted together the phrases line by line. On Satguru’s specific request Sathya played a solo number on kavadi sindhu – Chenni kulanagar and had the audience dancing with the perfect rhythm support of quality percussion artist supporting Sathya.

22nd Feb Concert for Hamsadhwani

I take this oppurtunity for the presence of many and wishes of everyone for Sathya's concert today for Hamsadwani which concert performance was appriciated by almost all in the audience which was indeed a good turn out considering the time slot of 5-630 pm. I give below a report as told by many in the audience.

Sathya started the concert with a ada thala varnam in ragam Bhairavi which was of high quality particularly the gamakams for the raga brought out on this western instrument. He then went on to a brief alapana on Hamsadhwani for the krithi Gum Ganapathim with crisp speed and kalpanaswarams. The enchancement artist Sri Rajeev on violin gave excellent support and so was Sri Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on mrudhangam.

Sathya's next number was on ragam Poorvi Kalyani - krithi Meenakshi for which he gave an ellobrate alapana and made one understand that even this instrument can produce gamakas provided it is handled in the way required. Rajeev's alapana presentation for this was also appreciated by the knowledgble audience. Sathya went on to play Vandhey Sadha Padmanabam on ragam Navarasa kanada set to adi thalam and followed it with Muralidhara in ragam Maandu which was very pleasing to the ears.

Sathya took Gowri Manohari as the main item and made a detailed alapana and Rajeev on violin also matched every score and the team got good appriciation from the audience. The krithi Guruleka was performed with apt kalapramana and during the kalpana swara prayogam Sathya went on to show his knowledge on playing Kalyani and Charukesi which were complimented by the aidience with loud applause. Suriyanarayanan's crisp thani was also well appriciated.

Sathya with the inspiration of western numbers played a spanish piece named 54 beats with scale changes provided at the end and was well supported by both the accompanying artist. This also received well by the rasikas. Sathya played Jonpuri thillana and ended the concert with Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram.

Thanks and best regards
