Re: RR Sabha Annual Music Festival (2009) in Kolkata
Sri. K. Sathyanarayana’s keyboard concert was a first of its kind in Kolkata. As I was entering Tyagaraja hall, my friend remarked “sound check er shomoy jaa nattai baajaalo, taa awshaadharon!” - tui kintu miss korlee… turns out that I had missed the varnam (sri raga) as well! Those who couldn’t make it early were left to rue as to what might have been. Regardless, yours truly was all eyes and ears from Gajavadana (sriranjani; S) onwards. The eighth grader from Padma Seshadri fulfilled audience expectations, acquitting himself very creditably in the company of Sri. S. Venkatakrishnan (violin), Sri. T.K. Karthik (mridangam), Sri. Hariharasubhramaniam (ghatam AND morsing) and his father and mentor Sri. T. Krishnababu who compered the proceedings. Sathya proceeded to play chandram bhaja (asaveri), tolijanma (bilahari; R,S), dudukugala (gowla) and visalakshi (kasi ramakriya; S) in succession, highlighting their musical richness. The tonal contrast between the keyboard and the violin was striking and bass effects were very enjoyable. Major effort went into the interpretation of dinamani vamsa (harikamboji; R,S,T) and it garnered the artistes a standing ovation after the tani avartana. Sabhapatikku (abhogi) preceded the RTP in shanmukhapriya (khanda triputa). A ragamalika (chinnanchirukiliye) and a ragatalamalika (excerpts from his album vatapi to vandemataram) were featured in the early and later segments, respectively. Sathya has said that he wants to be a “complete musician” – words that struck a chord in our hearts as he played the lines “suhaasini, su madhura bhaashini, sukhadaam varadaam maataram, vande maataram!”

A great concert trip and hope Sathya gets more and more oppurtunities like this in the future..

Sathya in Thiruvaiyaru for the 2nd year.- 15Jan'09

It was indeed a great oppurtunit to any one to perform at the Aradhana festival of Saint Thyagaraja and more so to perform on the Vakulapanchami day which was on the 15th Jan'09 this year. Sathya got to perform 15 mts from 445 - 5pm and it was indeed a good presentation as said by many of the audience. Sincere thanks to well wishers who had turned up there surprisingly. To name a few, Sri Rajkumar from Chennai Pothy's, Sri Ravichandran from Coimbatore, Mr Raj from Mangalore and many more.

There was good ambience with large audience turnout and a good PA system which went well with the enhancement artists Sri Villiwakkam Raghuraman on violin, R. Sankaranarayanan on Mrudhangam and Mayavaram Balaji on Kanjeera to team up with Sathya to give a good presentation. The team played SamajaVaragamana - Hindolam, Durmagachara - Anjani both being audience choice and InthaSowkamu - Kaapi being Sathya's choice. Looking forward to continuous oppurtunity year after year in this forum and thanks to Sri Vasu, relative of Sri Raghuram for having hosted us in Thiruvaiyaru with great hospitality.

Park Copncerts for Chennai Sangamam on 12th & 14th Jan'09

Sathya got oppurtunity to perform in this year's Chennai Sangamam conducted by Tamizh Maiyam in coordination with the Government of TamilNadu for two occasions. The first one was in heArtbeat Ensemble on the 12th at Thiru Vi ka Park in Valasaravakam which had huge audience and we were so happy to see a general crowd taking our type of music. Embar Kannan gave a detailed raga aalapana on Rathipathipriya and Sathya gave his turn on Vanaspathi. The way Ghatam Dr Karthick has been handling the presentation is worth mentioning and his singing has also improved leaps & bounds.

The second one was at Tower Park, Anna Nagar on the 14th Jan'09 morning 6:30 - 7:30am which had a good response with most of the audience in the category of Upper Class. As Sathya was performing with Karaikal Venkatasubramanian on the violin, Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam, HariharaSubramanaian on Ghatam and Krishnababu on Thalam, rain started pouring and the team had to rush up packing the instruments after about 40 mts of the concert duration. Looking forward to continued oppurtunity in the coming years too from Chennai Sangamam.

Padma Sarangapani Concert - A grand one on the 6th Jan'09

It was indeed a special concert for the reason that this was fixed a year before when Sathya performed for Padma Sarangapani Cultural academy, Villiwakkam during the last year musi festival. So nice of Sri Varadhan, Chairman, Padma Cultural Academy to have featured Sathya in their series for this year festival. This year it was at Virugambakkam and was in line with one among his best concerts.

Sathya was very much blessed to be lined up in a music series with Great Musicians like Sri. T.N. Seshagopalan, Sri Shashank, Sri Sikkil Gurucharan, Sathya's guru Kum. A. Kanyakumari and Udaylur Sri JKalayanaraman's Namsangeerthanam. The cocnert was well attended and Sathya presented a good concert with teh team of Kalraikal Venkatasubramaniam on Violin, Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam, Nerkunam Sankar on Kanjeera and HariharaSubramaniam on Ghatam. A Divine Start for the year 2009.

It is indeed a great blessing for Sathya to have got the oppurtunity to perform at the Sri Panjamuka Anjaneyar Music Festival series as his first concert for the year 2009 for 2 hrs from 7 - 9 am. The team of Rajeev on violin and Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhnagam were there together on the 01.01.2008 for a private concert. However this was a public concert and also had D.V. Venkatasuramaniam on the Ghatam. It was really a divine atmosphere with few knowledgeable audience around who appreciated every krithi rendered. Performing at this place is always blessings and it was indeed great to do so as your opening concert for the new year 2009. It was nice of the secretary Sri Ramasamy uncle to ask my amma to sing two songs and she sang very well too. You can listen to teh audio in the following link:

A good finish to 31 December 2008

It was indeed a good way of finishing the year 2008 with a concert Sathya had performed for heArtbeat Ensemble in Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium for Brahma Gana Sabha in the morning. Sathya received the prestigious "Yuva Kala Vipanchee" award from the hands of Dr. BalaMuralikrishna the same evening and rounded off the year with a solo performance in a private show with Baski's "Hari Giri Theatres". Later he proceeded to Music academy to take part in the Musician's celebrations of welcoming the New Year 2009 with a group performance rendering Entharo Mahanubhavulu at 0001 hrs on 01.01.09, organised by Carnatica. At around 0030 hrs Sathya performed Niravathy Sukatha and then went home to be back at 0700 hrs to perform for Panjamuka Anjaneya Festival Committee concert at Mylapore. Signing off 2008 and Signing in 2009 has been remarkable for Sathya and hope he is blessed to achieve more laurels in the year 2009.
