Sathya had a great Sivarathri experience on the 26th night with the opportunity to perform in Ghatam Karthick’s ‘heartbeat’ for Isha Foundation’s Sivarathri celebrations at Veliangiri, Coimbatore.
Just after the performance of Remo Fernandez and party at 415 am on the 27th Feb’06 the heartbeat team headed by S Karthick on the ghatam comprising Embar S Kannan on violin and Sathya on the keyboard for melody and Sri Poongulam Subramanian on the mrudhangam, Gopalakrishnan on the Kanjeera, Kalaimamani A. S. Krishnan on the morsing and Sri Sowrirajan on the thavil performed an inspiring concert.
The team started with a traditional Mallari – ragam Gambeera nattai set to Kandajathi thiruputa thalam with all four kalapramanams and straight away won the hearts of the audience and in particular that of Sathguru Jaggi Vasudev who applauded the team. They went on to play few electrifying numbers on ragams Rathipathipriya, Vanaspathi and Srothaswani. Embar Kannan gave a brief alapana for all the numbers and in Srothaswani Sathya also played and exhibited his prowess of playing gamakas during his alapana. This number had the thani avarthanam where each one of the percussion artist excelled each other.
Ghatam Karthick’s singing also was well received particularly the Siva sthothra presented by him as the last item in which the audience involved themselves and chanted together the phrases line by line. On Satguru’s specific request Sathya played a solo number on kavadi sindhu – Chenni kulanagar and had the audience dancing with the perfect rhythm support of quality percussion artist supporting Sathya.
