Sathya performing a grand light music concert


Sathya on the 21st April'06 performed a grand light music concert for his friend and his group's singer Ms Rekha's wedding reception in Chennai. Sri Suriyanarayanan - Bass Guitar, Sri Sridhar - Drums, Sri Pradeep - Tabla, Sri Ravishankar - Mrudhangam, Vocal support and support Keyboard for few songs were on stage with Sathya.

Sathya played his mainstream i.e Carnatic on Keyboard and the film songs were song by his Lalitha, Father Krishnababu and friends Mr Hari and Srinivas.

Sathya performs his 250th concert at New Delhi for CII on the 19th Apr'06



Sathya got a great oppurtunity to perform for CII, at New Delhi through Sri Mudhra Bhaskar and in the presence of Mr and Mrs Seshasayee, Dir. Ashok Leyland. This was Sathya's 250th concert. Sathya was accompanied by Smt Jayamangala Krishnamani on mrudhangam and they gave an excellent presentation for about one and half hours. This concert had Mstr R Sriram also on stage performing with Sri Ramiah on the mrudhangam.
All the artists presented Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram and Vandhey Matheram at the end. The artists gave a good performance and were was well received and applauded by the audience. Mr & Mrs Seshasayee in particular appriciated the artists and blessed them for a wonderful future.

Sathya for IWA meet at the CG's residence of US Consulate



Sathya today had the oppurtunity to perform once again with Paul Jacob for Bodhi Music under 'Funky Bodhi' in the concert organised for International Women's Association at the residence of The Consulor General of USA.

Sathya on Keyboard with Donan Murray on the lead Guitar, Paul Jacob on the Bass guitar and Balakrishnan on the Mrudhangam made a great team and enthralled the IWA members with a 45 mts perfomance. The team took up Mallari on ragam Gambeera Nattai and went on developing with led gutar and keyboard making a great combination and the bass guitar and mrudhangam giving boost to enchancethe music.
Nirosta ragam krithi was taken as the second one and it was indeed a pleasant number with both the guitar artists enjoying the western color of the raga. This was followed by a pallavi on Sumesaranjani and involver free kalpanaswara prayogam by keyboard and lead guitar touching phrses on Mohanam & Kalyani. The team ended the concert with Thillana on Revathy and the entire crowd appreciated the blending of instruments by taking pure carnatic raga based krithis.
This This show was followed by the music of 'Okiyatan' another concept of Bodhi Music were Karthick, a folk singer from Bengal and Bone Chakravarthy gave a great vocal numbers. Infact the IWA members have shown great interest to stage an exclusive show shoon.

Sathya's performance for a chamber concert on 17th april'06





After the private wedding concert on the 3rd April'06 Sathya performed carnatic chamber concert today the 17th April'06 at # 1 Nehru Nagar Adyar, Chennai - 20 for Kunnakudy School of Music and T S Mahalingam & Sons and sponsored by Mahalakshmi Boutique.

Sathya started off the concert with a varnam on Amruthavarshni set to Athi thalam composed by Sri Seshadri. He then played Gajananayutham on ragam Chakravagam with a brief alapana and had a good kalpana swaras at the end. He had Smt Anuthama Subramaniam on violin Sishya of Kalaimamani Kum. A Kanyakumari and Smt Jayamangala Krishnamani on mrudhangam (Sishya of Sri Manargudi Eswaran), a real good mrudhangam artist who is a Yuva Kala Bharathi Awardee for vocal music.

The third krithi was Mamavasadha on Natakurunji set to Rupakam . The Bandhuvarali krithi of Dikshidar's Visalakshi set to Misra Chappu had a expanded kalpana swaras and all the three did an excellent co-ordination. Ravichadrika raga krithi Niravathisukadha on athi was performed in a brisk tempo and was followed by a rendition of Nalinakanthi raga alapana for the krithi Neepathamegathi set to Rupaka thalam.

Sathya went on to play Raja Raja a rare krithi on ragam Nirosta of Muthaih Bagavathar which was followed by a brisk Marugelara on Jayanthasri. The main krithi was Intha Sowkyamu which had an elaborate Kaapi alapna in which Sathya explored the nuances of the instrument to perform Carnatic music. He went on to do perform swararagamalika with Swarasammohini and Charukesi. The way in which he finished with a round of Charukesi Swarasammohini and then on to Kaapi gained applause from the handful of knowledgeable audience.

Sathya took up Kartrinile varum geetham followed by Lalgudi's Jonpuri thillana and ended the concert with Bagyadhalaksmi on Madhyamavathy. Smt Kunnakudi Bala went on to express that it was some vidwan who is in Sathya who is bringing the music out thru his fingers on the keyboard and this is indeed a great appreciation for this child's efforts. Every one in the audience were praising Sathya and appreciated the way he is shaping up.

Both the enhancement artist played their roll to the perfection and got the appreciation of the audience.

Sathya with his 1st guru's Guru



Sathya had the oppurtunity to get the blessings of Sangeetha Bhushanam Sri S V Parthasarathy (SVP) who is Sathya's 1st guru Sri Embar S Sadagopan's guru. Given are the pictures to share Sathya's pleasant moments with his guru's guru.
Sri SVP had the distinction of studying in Annamalai University and later became its Dean and served for many years. He also had been the producer in All India Radio, Trichy. Sri SVP has been honoured by the Sangeetha Natak Academy Award this year by the Central Government. Rasikas can hear his concert on 8th April'06 in FM Gold at 5pm.

Few details of are being shared here for general information:

Sri SVP was born in 1917 and is the son of the great humorous writer of repute popularly known as SVV. He had his formal training under his mother and after his schooling joined the Music College of Annamalai University in 1934. He had the good fortune to study under great legends like Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri T S Sabesa Iyer, K Ponniah Pillai, Tiger R Varadhachariar and Saathur Krishna Iyengar. In 1938 he secured 1st class and got the title Sangeetha Bhushanam and has been performing concert even today. He is also a fine veena player.

Since 1938 Sri SVP has been singing in AIR as a top grade artiste in classical music and is also given top ranking as Light Music composer in AIR. Considering his merit and popularity as a concert artiste Annamalai University offered him lecturer post in Music in 1954. After two year in service he then joined All India Radio, Trichy and served for almost 22 years.

Later in 1985 he was joined Annamalai University as Professor of Musician the Music College and later was promoted as Head of the Department of Music and Dean of Fine Arts. He was one of the very early artistes to give recordings in Gramophone Disc of Columbia Gramophone Company in 1949.

In 1977 Sayee Matha Devi of Shanmada Ashramam of Pudukottai, Tamilnadu honoured him with the title "Sangeetha Samraat".

In 1993 he was conferred the title of "Nadakkanal" by the members of Nadakkanal.

In 1996 Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha conferred him with Senior Musician Award.

In 2003 Sri Semangudi Iyer Trust honoured his with Senior Musician Award.

In 2003 Sruthi Foundation and Mrudhanga Vidwan Sri Vellore Ramabadran honoured him with "Gopalacharya Memorial Award"

Mudhra - at the new Venue from Apr'06


Mudhra, a leading orgnisation promoting Arts & Culture conducting events for the last 11 years, today innaguraed their operation at their new venue i.e. at Ramakrishna Mission Matriculation Higher econdary School Auditorium, # 71 Bazullah Road, T Nagar Chennai - 17 (behind Vivek Show Room in North Usman Road).
Swami Padmasthananda Maharaj lighted the kuthuvillaku and Padmashree Dr Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti formally inagurated.
Mstr K Sathyanarayanan had the oppurtunity to perform Carnatic on Keyboard from 425 - 550 pm with his enchansement artists Sri B Ananthakrishnan on Violin and Sri R Yogaraj on Mrudhangam. Sathya started the concert with Nattakurinji varnam which was followed by Sri Mahaganapathey in Abogi - Kandachappu thalam. Then he took a brief alapana of Bhairavi for Swathithirunal's Janani Mamava set to Misra Chappu thalam.
After a brisk Marugelara, Thyagaraja krithi on ragam Jayathasri, Sathya went on to give a RTP on keeravani that was followed with swararagamalika on ragams Kaapi, Sumenesa Ranjani and Brindavana Sarangi. He then went on to play Purandaradasar's Jagadhodharaka and Bharathiar's Theeratha Villayatu pillai before ending the concert with a thillana on Revathy coposed by Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman set to Misra Chappu.
After the inaguration function Kalaimamani O. S. Arun & party gave Bhajans.

Sathya's concert at Arupadai Veedu Temple - Besant Nagar - Chennai


Sathya today performed his 245th concert at Arulmigu arupadai Veedu Temple, Besant Nagar, Chennai. His enhancement artists for the day were Sri Mannarkudi Srinivasan on violin, Sri R Karthikeyan on Mrudhangam and Sri Kotayam Radhakrishnan on Ghatam. The programme was thru' Mrs Thyagarajan and was sponsored by Sri Krishna Sweets under their daily programme for 365 days scheme.

It was for the first time Sathya was performing here and had a good number of audience till the end of the concert from 630 - 850pm

Sathya's new album "Carnatic on Keyboard - Vol 3"




Sathyanarayanan has released his 4th album titled Carnatic on Keyboard Vol 3 with Sri Embar S Kannan on violin and Sri Pathri Satiskumar on Mrudhangam. Sathya’s enchancement artist for this new album are Sri Embar S Kannan on the violin and Sri Pathri Satishkumar on the Mrudhangam.

Carnatic on Keyboard – Vol.3, interestingly is a sponsored album by Sri N Balasubramaniam, Partner, T S Mahalingam & Sons (leading car dealers) who has motivated Sathya to do this new album. This album has been made to bring out Sathya’s ability to explore this western instrument to bring out gamakas, the nuances of Carnatic music. The album was recorded at the Radhakrishna Theatrre ,Kothandapani Audio Lab, Chennai with Sri Gopi as the engineer.

K Sathyanarayanan (Born Feb 1, 1995), a child prodigy, took to playing Carnatic music on the keyboard at the age of 6. He has released two albums tilted Carnatic on Keyboard Vol 1 & Vol. 2 for Serendipity Music Productions and ‘The Classic Medley (Vaatapi to Vandematharam) for Kosmic Music. Sathya has passed Grade 8 examination (on electronic Keyboard) conducted by Trinity College, London at the age of 10 and has been performing at several leading Carnatic Music forums. Sathya in Ghatam Karthick’s heArtbeat team at Isha Foundation 26th Feb 06 Sivarathri Celebrations.





Sathya had a great Sivarathri experience on the 26th night with the opportunity to perform in Ghatam Karthick’s ‘heartbeat’ for Isha Foundation’s Sivarathri celebrations at Veliangiri, Coimbatore.

Just after the performance of Remo Fernandez and party at 415 am on the 27th Feb’06 the heartbeat team headed by S Karthick on the ghatam comprising Embar S Kannan on violin and Sathya on the keyboard for melody and Sri Poongulam Subramanian on the mrudhangam, Gopalakrishnan on the Kanjeera, Kalaimamani A. S. Krishnan on the morsing and Sri Sowrirajan on the thavil performed an inspiring concert.

The team started with a traditional Mallari – ragam Gambeera nattai set to Kandajathi thiruputa thalam with all four kalapramanams and straight away won the hearts of the audience and in particular that of Sathguru Jaggi Vasudev who applauded the team. They went on to play few electrifying numbers on ragams Rathipathipriya, Vanaspathi and Srothaswani. Embar Kannan gave a brief alapana for all the numbers and in Srothaswani Sathya also played and exhibited his prowess of playing gamakas during his alapana. This number had the thani avarthanam where each one of the percussion artist excelled each other.

Ghatam Karthick’s singing also was well received particularly the Siva sthothra presented by him as the last item in which the audience involved themselves and chanted together the phrases line by line. On Satguru’s specific request Sathya played a solo number on kavadi sindhu – Chenni kulanagar and had the audience dancing with the perfect rhythm support of quality percussion artist supporting Sathya.

Sathya had the oppurtunity to perform with Ghatam Karthick's heArtbeat team's core team comprising Sri Embar S Kannan on the violin, Sri Poongulam Subramanian on the mrudhangam and Sri Karthick on the Ghatam this evening for a private concert. Sathya enjoyed every moment of this concert as he was so happy to perform with his uncle as one of his enhancement artist.

Sathya today performed for Isaai Mazhalai at Hotel Woodlands for a private function for 2 hrs and his enchansement artists were K P Nandhini on Violin, Bhardwaj on Mrudhangum and Chandrasekara Sharma on the Ghatam. The team performed a wonderful concert.

Felicitation to Music Ambassadors

Sri Nalli Chettiar, a music patron ikon, under Bharathi Kala Mandram felicitated the Music Ambassadors namely, Dr T P Naidoo - Durban South Africa, Cleveland Sundaram, Cleveland Balasubramaniam and Toronto Venkatraman. This function was held at the Woodlands Hotel today, 22nd Feb'06 which was attended by almost 1000 people, from officials of various sabhas, artists and rasika apart from media persons.

22nd Feb Concert for Hamsadhwani


I take this oppurtunity for the presence of many and wishes of everyone for Sathya's concert today for Hamsadwani which concert performance was appriciated by almost all in the audience which was indeed a good turn out considering the time slot of 5-630 pm. I give below a report as told by many in the audience.

Sathya started the concert with a ada thala varnam in ragam Bhairavi which was of high quality particularly the gamakams for the raga brought out on this western instrument. He then went on to a brief alapana on Hamsadhwani for the krithi Gum Ganapathim with crisp speed and kalpanaswarams. The enchancement artist Sri Rajeev on violin gave excellent support and so was Sri Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on mrudhangam.

Sathya's next number was on ragam Poorvi Kalyani - krithi Meenakshi for which he gave an ellobrate alapana and made one understand that even this instrument can produce gamakas provided it is handled in the way required. Rajeev's alapana presentation for this was also appreciated by the knowledgble audience. Sathya went on to play Vandhey Sadha Padmanabam on ragam Navarasa kanada set to adi thalam and followed it with Muralidhara in ragam Maandu which was very pleasing to the ears.

Sathya took Gowri Manohari as the main item and made a detailed alapana and Rajeev on violin also matched every score and the team got good appriciation from the audience. The krithi Guruleka was performed with apt kalapramana and during the kalpana swara prayogam Sathya went on to show his knowledge on playing Kalyani and Charukesi which were complimented by the aidience with loud applause. Suriyanarayanan's crisp thani was also well appriciated.

Sathya with the inspiration of western numbers played a spanish piece named 54 beats with scale changes provided at the end and was well supported by both the accompanying artist. This also received well by the rasikas. Sathya played Jonpuri thillana and ended the concert with Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram.

It was indeed a greatest experience for Sathya to have got an opportunity to be a member of 3800 artists who performed a grand music performance for Sri Sri Ravishankarji's "Art of Living" silver jubilee celebrations held at the Jakkur Airfield, Bangalore on the 17,18 & 19th Feb'06. The opportunity was given to Sathya thru Kalaimamani Kum A Kanyakumari who was one of the lead player for this grand musical performance. The artist name list included the legendary Shri Lalgudi, Shri M S Anatharaman, Shri Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Shri Bakthavatchalam, Shri T N Seshagoplan, Shri T V Gopalakrishnan, Shri Kadri Gopalnath, Shri Ravikiran, Shri Sashikiran and many others.

It was also an unique experience to be on stage in front of almost 10 - 15 lakhs of people who had assembled to have dharshan of Sri Guruji and get his blessings. The artist group performed two songs a day and the kritis performed were

It has been reported that around 700 veena, 700 flute, 800 violin, 600 mrudhangam 200 ghatam and manyother instrumentalists performed togeher of whic and keyboard had the presence of 20 artists which is again a recognition this instrument has achieved over the years in the carnatic platform.
The invitees included many Presidents of various countries, Saints, Intelectuals and many more and the star among them was our President Dr Abdul Kalam who gave an inspiring speech.

Sathya's performance at the Capital for AAIWWA on 10th Feb'06





10th Feb'06 was indeed a great day for Sathya as he had the opportunity to perform in front of a large audience of around 3000 people at the Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi for the programme titled 'Spring Tide 2006' for Kalyanmayee, Airport Authority of India Women Welfare Association. He also had the blessed audience of Smt Usha Uthup, who performed a 90mt concert after Sathya's 60mt show.

Sathya had Sri Suri on Bass Guitar, Sri Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhunagam & Kanjeera, Sri Harihara Subramaniam on Ghatam, Sri Padmanabhan on Rhythm Pad, Sri Rajagopal on Tabla and his parents Lalitha and Krishnababu to give vocal support.

Sathya started the concert with Vathapi Ganapathim and followed it with

Almost the entire crowd joined for the namavali - raghupathi raghava rajaram and he was complimented by Smt Usha Uthup for his excellent concert presentation . This was indeed a great blessing for Sathya and hope he grows to great levels slowly and steadily.

5th Feb'06 Sathya presented with Sangam Child Prodigy Award




Sangam Kal Group, a Delhi based organistion sponsored by Hero Hondo promoted in memory of a great child prodigy 'Sri Madan', today had their Chennai chapter musical evening with competitions in various categories in non film and fil music. Almost around 150 persons participated and the function was held through out the day at Raga Sudha Hall, Mylapore, Chennai. The chief guest was Ms Subhashri Thanikachalam a well known personality, Director Music Programmes on various Television channels.
Sangam Kala Group, Chennai Chapter presented the ' Sangam Child Prodigy Award' for this year to Sathya for his talents and achievements. In this function Sathya also gave a short 25 mins solo concert with his Yamaha keyboard giving the rhythm pattern and melody was played on the Korg board.

It was indeed another great day for Sathya as he was given an oppurtunity to perform with great artsits to render Thyagaraja's Pancharathna Krithis at Bharat Kalachar. The welcoming factor is that, not only the stage was full of artsits, even the audience section was to its full capacity which shows the support given by both artists and rasikas for Bharat Kaalachar and its noble cause.
Senior vidwans in all fields of carnatic music were honoured and the chief guest for the day was Sri Murali, Prseident, Music Academy. The notable contribution to the artsits section was from Issai Mazhalai, Sri Ramjhi's carnatic section students who were around 20 - 30 in number on stage.

03 Feb'06 a private concert

Sathya performed today with his enhancement artists being Ms Aanuthama on violin, Mr Kumabakonam Saravanan on the mrudhangam and Mr Adambakkam Sankar on ghatam for a private concert at the Aringar Anna Arangam, Chetput.
