Carnatic concert - 12th April in Chennai for a private function

Sathya & family takes this oppurtunity to thank one and all for pouring wishes vide emails and telephone calls for the "Sahana Saral" track from Sivaji.

Today it was a different Sathya on stage with B Ananthakrishnan on violin Sri Neyveli Narayanan on mrudhangam and J Sowrirajan on Kanjeera & Morsing. Sathya stared the concert with Mohana varnam and performed a 2 and half hour concert which had the audience spellbound.

One of the audience wanted a krithi in Karaharapriya and Sathya used the raga for the kalpana swara ragamalika in the main number - Karpagame - Madhyamavathy. This made the person who requested very happy. The knowledgeble audience also aprreciated Sathya for his music composition on 6 Thirukurals which he performed as a trial version. This is to be staged on the 14th April'07 in a concert for Brahma Gana Sabha at Pethachi Auditorium in his music ensemble. The concert was enriched and enchansed by the sheer presence of a senior artist in Sri Neyveli Narayanan and it was indeed a great experience interms concert presentation for Sathya.

This is Sathya's favorite song from Sivaji for which A R Rehman has composed great music. He just heard it buying the original cd album, and have played it with his Yamaha 640 for rhythm and KORG TR for melody.

Concert at Sri Mukkur Swamy's Ashram 05 April, 2007

It was indeed a great experience for Sathya's family to be performing at the Temple premises of Sri Yagyamyrthy Lakshminarasimha sannadhi of Sri Mukkur Swamigal Ashram on the 5th April'07. It was just a feeling of presenting exclusively for the Gods and Sathya attempted to perform Nannupalimpa on Mohanam with ragamalika kalpanaswaram on ragam Bowli for the first time. With the grace of Sri Yagyamurthy it came out well. It is a day which i cannot forget as i sang a song composed by myself, on the avathara of Sri Narasimha and the birth of Prahaladha.

The credits for arranging this concert should go to Ananthakrishnan as it was he who had suggested Sathya to perform, while he was asked to perform a solo by his uncle. It was so nice of Sri Calcutta Karhick - Student of Sri Umayalpuram Sivaraman, to have enhanced this concert.

Qte:

Let me tell about myself. I am music lover and have been hearing music since my childhood. Music is my past time.

Today you took my memory back to my younger days.Few inner feeling I just want to share with you as It stikes me.First,I recalled Sri U Srinivas(Mandolin) who came to our Sesha sayee Paper Mill colony,Erode in the year 1986 for a concert arranged by Sesha gana sabha. He was very young at that time.I Knew he is going to become one of the greatest exponent of mandolin that day itself. Same Feeling I got yesterday when i saw you playing the same.

Secondly,When I heard the Ragam Kalandihi played by you it reminded me of Sri G S Mani mama at erode way back in 1988 at Erode again at sesha gana sabha .Your expression and the bhava and the nuances was so great that it recalled me of mani mama. When you can bring about such an expressions at this age, your expressions will only move to a higher plane as you advance.

Not only that, many of your today's songs reminded me of the all time greats in the field of music. Like ,Bhavayami gopalabalam recalled me MS amma, your mohanam ragam and Yam kalyani recalled me Santhanam mama and Kanya Akka. Finally,What a way to end with Kurai ondrum illai and more so at a place where really the truth lies. and I have no doubt in my mind that your musical journey will be blessed by Lord Nrisimha.

Concert for Janaranjani Sabha, Kumbakonam 24th Feb’07

Mr Gopalan, Secy was not expecting a big crowd on this day the 24th Feb’07 as there were many activities taking part for audience participation including the episode of Kalakapovadhu Yaaru for a TV Channel. Chennai Sangamam Concert on 23rd Fe'07 Back to back concert for teh third day

The concept of “Chennai Sangamam” is surely a great success and who ever masterminded this project should be appreciated. In the days of all the sabhas complaining about the low attendance this concept would definitely boost and initiate the people to attend concerts from now on. Yes this has really shown a new way of spending time usefully for people who probably thought music was not their preference against movies and TV channel.

The audience present for this morning concert did imply this and Sathya presented an audience friendly concerts with almost all popular numbers. The reason was to make even people hearing / attending concert first time to get interest and lure them to attend more such concerts.

B Ananthakrishnan on Violin and Kumbakonam Swaminathan on Mrudhangam gave an excellent enhancement and the team did achieve what probably the organizers of “Chennai Sangamam” wanted namely creating interest to the mass.

Fusion Music under Chitraveena Sri Ravikiran 22.02.07

It was indeed a great recognition extended once again by Sri Ravikiran to have Sathya as one of his team member for the Fusion concept concert rendered for “Chennai Sangamam” at Mada Veedhai, Mylapore in front of Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple (Main Gopuram).

Sri Ravikiran leading the team of Sri K.V. Prasad on Mrudhangam, Sow. Akkarai Subulakshmi on violin, Smt Anuradha Pal on the Tabla (the only women tabla artiste in the world as introduced by the organizer) and Sathya gave an excellent concert.

The concert was presented in a manner that even a novice / first time listener of our traditional form of music relished and enjoyed. Well this is the motive of the concept “Chennai Sangamam” and the artist to the caliber of Sri Ravikiran did extend his full support with this concert.

Starting the concert with his own compositions 1. Cold coffee on ragam Kaapi and 2. Moon flowers on ragam Suryagantham, Sri Ravikiran performed the ever melodious ragam Kadhanakudhugalam. Sri Ravikiran gave a great exposure to Sathya during the raga alapana of Suryagantham in which he brought out the nuances of Carnatic music on the keyboard by guiding Sathya to play the phrases he performed on the Chitra Veena. The audience was very appreciative and this will go a long way to register the arrival of Keyboard in the Carnatic music forum. He also gave ample opportunity to Sow. Akkarai Subbulakshmi to showcase her talents. Sri K V Prasad & Smt Anuradha Pal’s’s excellent accompaniment on the Mrudhangam added flavor and so was the thani avarthanam.

Sri Ravikiran then completed the concert with a Bharathiar’s composition Aasai Marandhu Poche in ragam Jonpuri, The large audience enjoyed every moment of the concert and so did our Chief Ministers wife and the Smt Kanimozhi with her family. A blessed opportunity & experience for Sathya once again to be performing with Sri Ravikiran’s team.

The team of Anathakrishnan on violin, Arjun Ganesh on mrudhangam and Harihara Sharma on Kanjeera (first time he is performing with Sathya) got appreciation from the well attended and knowledgeble audience. Sri Charukesi - a leading msuic critic introduced Sathya to the audience and Sri Bagyam Ramasamy (the writer of famous Seethapatti & Appuswamy thatha) the grandfather of Mstr Shashank appriciated and blessed Sathya for his bright future.

Jugalbandhi on Keyboard - Brahma Gana Sabha 20th Feb'07

It is indeed for the first time ever this concept was happening. Thanks to the thought of Sri A Natarajan, former Director Doordharshan Madras, who had this idea and staged it for Brahma Gana Sabha on 20th Feb'07 at Narada Gana Sabha. Yes, a Jugalbandhi on keyboard - may be a lighter subject today but indeed a history was created with Carnatic on Keyboard Sathya and Hindustani on Keyboard Adithi joined together and performed a show.

With Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and Ganesh Rao on Tabla the team of 4 gave a good presentation which had a august gathering with Padmashree Sri Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti and Sri Natarajan to name a few. There were also artists, press and rasikas and a sincere thanks to each one of the audience who had turned up here.

Starting with Hamsadwani raga alapana the duo of Sathya and Adithi gave a brief alapana in thier own style of music and then after playing the pallavi of Vaathapi Ganapathim went on to explore their kalpanai for the swara elaboration.

It was then a individual session with Sathya performing detailed raga - Nagumomu on Aberi followed with swaram which was uplauded by one and all. Adithi took up Beemplas the similar colour of raga and made alapana and played gat with kalapanaswaram receiving appriciation from all.
Then the duo took up Hindolam - Malkouns combination as the main to play a popular phrase. Both gave a great presentation of the raga alapana and exhibited their manodharma. Both Suriyanarayanan and Ganesh Rao gave excellent enhancement with their style of playing their instruments and also gave a crisp thani.
The concert concluded with a brief expansion of Desh raag aalapana followed by Vandhey Matharam. It was indeed a great presentation by the team considering the fact that the team rehersed for just 2 hours due to paucity of time. I think we can look forward to more such concerts in future.

"Beethovan Re-incarnated Award"- by Rotasia to Sathya

It was indeed a great surprise to us on the 16th Feb'07 evening when we were informed by the ROTASIA organizer that Sathya is to be given an award under the title of "Beethovan Re-incarnated Award". Rotasia also honoured Mstr Siddharth Nagarajan and Ms Athira Krishna with award titled Master of Percussion and Princess of String respectively on the same day.
All the three awardees gave a performance for almost an hour and it was a great evening for the audience. While Siddharth made every one dance to his foot tapping rhythm solo Sathya & Athira mesmorized the crowd with their masterly own compositions. The result of the Trio's success came out in the form of Sri AVM Balasubrmaniam - AVM Studios, coming forward to offer his studio time free of cost for the trio to make a project. Kudos to the Trio of Sathya, Siddharth and Athira.

An elaboration of alapana for Sankarabaranam by both Sathya and Raghuraman was well applauded and so for the crisp thani performed by Suriyanarayanan on the mrudhangamfor this number. Sathya concluded the concert with Paras thilana. The concert had a decent attendence at around 515 pm itself with over 50 people which raised to almost 250 - 275 persons.

Everyone present appreciated and informed that there has been a remarkable improvement on Sathya's presentation. This is due to gainining experience and also with new handling techniques for the new KORG TR board which he started using it from the 1st Aug'06. Sri Ramachandran, Secy. Hamsadwani, spoke well about Sathya's efforts in playing carnatic on keyboard and also announced about his recent awards namely "Aasthana Vidwan of Sri Kalahasthi" and the Rotasia award which he received late in the evening titled "Beethovan Re-incarnated Award"
