Child prodigy mesmerises music lovers
Published in Doha Time Monday, 23 April, 2007,
The Carnatic keyboard recital by the 12-year-old prodigy Sathyanarayan was mesmerising. It invoked rapturous applause throughout the event held on Friday evening at the Indian Cultural Centre.Sathya’s skill in cascading the innumerable notes effortlessly on the keyboard with a unique improvisation of the bender brought out the Gamakas, leaving the audience spellbound. It was a superb musical treat brought to Doha by the Music Lovers Group. This was Sathya’s 363rd recital but Doha was his maiden solo overseas foray. With an innocuous smile, combined with prodigal talent, Sathya captivated the audience. He started the recital with a Varnam in Abhogi, and followed it by Vathapi Ganapathim on Hamsadwani in Adi Taalam which was outstanding. After a fine Sobilu in Jaganmohini and Sadimchane in Arabi, Sathya presented his own composition, a Raaga Malika using the Thirukural offering a flavour of Chakravagam, Brindhavana Saranga and Chandrakauns.
Ananthakrishnan pitched in with his violin as well as some exquisite singing in the Hindustani style making it a great listening experience.Sathya’s father, Krishna Babu, lent some excellent vocal support to this unique composition as well.-Ragini

Concert for Tambaram Music Club, 22nd Apr'04.
Sathya, accompanied by Kandadevi Sri. Vijayaraghavan on the violin and Kumbakonam Sri. Saravanan on the mridangam and Sri. E.M. Subramanian on the ghatam, gave a scintillating performance.
Starting with the Varnam in Sri, Sathya next explored the contours of Gowla. Sathya demonstrated his mastery over the keyboard in the expert way in which he played the Ri in Gowla. Sri Mahaganapathi Ravathumam was rendered in all its glory with the Misra Chapu adding a brisk and nice contrast to the opening Adhi thalam.
Sathya elaborated Bahudari for the first time in this concert on the request of Sri. Vijayaraghavan. Keeping with his talent, he did a commendable job. Thyagaraja's Brovabaramma followed and Sathya rounded it off with kalpana swarams.
Oothukadu Venkata Kavi's Balasarasmurali (Keeravani) was played with aplomb followed by Samana Rahithe, a GNB composition in the rarely heard Saranga Tharangini.
For the main raga, Sathya took up Mohanam. Picking a comfortable tempo, Sathya explored the various facets and turns and twists of this raga. Continuing in the same relaxed vein, he played Thyagaraja's masterpiece, Nannu Palimpa. During his turn, Sri. Vijayaraghavan played a sumptuous Mohanam and his accompaniment during the whole concert was a source of joy. The kalpana swara section was absolutely brilliant with Sathya demonstrating his prodigious control over the laya aspect. He effortlessly performed Graha Bedam from Mohanam to Madhyamavati and then on to Hindolam, Suddha Saveri and Suddha Dhanyasi. He astutely played the phrases in one raga after the other in arohanam and rounded each off with the Mohanam avarohanam. He rounded it off with an interesting kuraippu and handed it over to Sri. Saravanan and Sri. Subramanian.
After a sweet thani avarthanam, Sathya presented a Jayadeva Ashtapadi in Sumanesa Ranjani and then a Sai Bhajan in Chakravagam (Eshwaramba - Adi). Lalgudi's Desh Thillana was a fitting finale to this wonderful concert.
Through out the concert Sri. Vijayaraghavan, Sri. Saravanan and Sri. Subramanian provided outstanding support and this enhanced the quality of the performance. It was also a pleasure to see these wonderful performers encouraging and appreciating the young artiste on stage.

The concert at Indian Cultural Centre - DOHA 20th April'07
The actual concert for which the tour was planned was for this which was held at The Indian Cultural Centre – DOHA ON THE 20TH April’07. THE SOUND SYSTEM PROVIDED BY Sri Pramod was at its best and the team had mentally prepared for another scintillating concert, while doing the sound check in the morning. Sathya was welcomed by Sree Jayan – a Magician who had his dad’s ring vanished for a while and picked it up from Sathya’s Kurtha pocket later. Sathya is still amased on this majic and keeps talking about the same.
Sathya started off this concert with Abogi Varnam followed by Vaathapi Ganapathim on Hamsadwani. Truly this was a Hamsadwani which has never been heard on Sathya’s instrument and this fact was accepted by Ananthakrishnan who has been performing with Sathya quite frequently. This also set the pace for the concert and there was no looking back. The knowledgeable audience of over 250 left the hall with great satisfaction of being a part of Sathya’s first overseas concert tour with great success.
The success of the team’s effort was that they have been confirmed a concert early next year and that sums up on the performance. Ananthakrishnan made his Hindustani Vocal debut for the Thirukural composition of Sathya and so was my self with kanjeera. The idea clicked and Ananthakrishnan as on the 14th April’07 concert in Chennai received much appreciation. They both jelled very well with AK singing the alaaps for Chakravagam, Brindhavasarangi and also ending with Chnadrakouns.
By singing Thirukural self was also appreciated and Suriyanarayanan also got to the limelight by his singing the Sai bhajan – Eeswaramba. The idea of performing ragamalika alapana with kaapi, Priyadharshini, Hamasdwani and Hamsanadham and also doing the korvai on ragamalika for the main krithi Inthasowkyamu was well executed.
The audience were spell bound and Sri Ganesh Srinivasan was overwhelmed with the performance of the team. Sathya also learnt how to be a good host with the act of Sri & Smt Ganesh Srinivasan’s hospitalitily. It was also the great care taken by the team of Sri Ravi & Murali who had been with Sathya and team all throughout and taking best care. It is sure the audience will remember the medley performed to end the concert and none of us can forget the great Meal – especially the rasam and potato cut curry by Smt Ganesh Srinivasan.

Secondly,When I heard the Ragam Kalandihi played by you it reminded me of Sri G S Mani mama at erode way back in 1988 at Erode again at sesha gana sabha .Your expression and the bhava and the nuances was so great that it recalled me of mani mama. When you can bring about such an expressions at this age, your expressions will only move to a higher plane as you advance.
Not only that, many of your today's songs reminded me of the all time greats in the field of music. Like ,Bhavayami gopalabalam recalled me MS amma, your mohanam ragam and Yam kalyani recalled me Santhanam mama and Kanya Akka. Finally,What a way to end with Kurai ondrum illai and more so at a place where really the truth lies. and I have no doubt in my mind that your musical journey will be blessed by Lord Nrisimha.
