Concert for Tambaram Music Club, 22nd Apr'04.

Sathya, accompanied by Kandadevi Sri. Vijayaraghavan on the violin and Kumbakonam Sri. Saravanan on the mridangam and Sri. E.M. Subramanian on the ghatam, gave a scintillating performance.

Starting with the Varnam in Sri, Sathya next explored the contours of Gowla. Sathya demonstrated his mastery over the keyboard in the expert way in which he played the Ri in Gowla. Sri Mahaganapathi Ravathumam was rendered in all its glory with the Misra Chapu adding a brisk and nice contrast to the opening Adhi thalam.

Sathya elaborated Bahudari for the first time in this concert on the request of Sri. Vijayaraghavan. Keeping with his talent, he did a commendable job. Thyagaraja's Brovabaramma followed and Sathya rounded it off with kalpana swarams.

Oothukadu Venkata Kavi's Balasarasmurali (Keeravani) was played with aplomb followed by Samana Rahithe, a GNB composition in the rarely heard Saranga Tharangini.

For the main raga, Sathya took up Mohanam. Picking a comfortable tempo, Sathya explored the various facets and turns and twists of this raga. Continuing in the same relaxed vein, he played Thyagaraja's masterpiece, Nannu Palimpa. During his turn, Sri. Vijayaraghavan played a sumptuous Mohanam and his accompaniment during the whole concert was a source of joy. The kalpana swara section was absolutely brilliant with Sathya demonstrating his prodigious control over the laya aspect. He effortlessly performed Graha Bedam from Mohanam to Madhyamavati and then on to Hindolam, Suddha Saveri and Suddha Dhanyasi. He astutely played the phrases in one raga after the other in arohanam and rounded each off with the Mohanam avarohanam. He rounded it off with an interesting kuraippu and handed it over to Sri. Saravanan and Sri. Subramanian.

After a sweet thani avarthanam, Sathya presented a Jayadeva Ashtapadi in Sumanesa Ranjani and then a Sai Bhajan in Chakravagam (Eshwaramba - Adi). Lalgudi's Desh Thillana was a fitting finale to this wonderful concert.

Through out the concert Sri. Vijayaraghavan, Sri. Saravanan and Sri. Subramanian provided outstanding support and this enhanced the quality of the performance. It was also a pleasure to see these wonderful performers encouraging and appreciating the young artiste on stage.
