wedding concert 21st Jan'07

A concert for the wedding does not always attract the audience attraction and it was like that for some time here. However as the concert was progressing Sathya was able to draw attention and towards the end he still had a good audience. Performing both classical and film numbers probably is the season for Sathya as he continued it here too as requested by the wedding party. SP Ananthapadmanabha on violin, Maniam on Mrudhangam (his school konnakol master performing first time with Sathya) and Rajagopla on Tabla enhanced the show with their masterluy touches in their respective instrument.

Concert for GRG College of Education - 19Jan07

A good opportunity to show case Sathya’s talent on both Carnatic & film side was here and as one the audience said he lived up to the expectations of them by maintaining the standards.

Starting of with Mahaganapathim Sathya performed many classical numbers and also performed film numbers like Suttumvizhi chudare, Amma endrazhiakadha and many more.

The highlight of the concert was the two compositions of Maestro Illayaraja, one based on Kaapi - Malayalam film number – Thumbe vaa and the other a composition based on three notes C D & D’ (sa ri ga). These Sathya heared from the Jaya TV Show of “ Andrum Indrum Endrum”. Also his own composition based on rag JOG also received applause.

Thanks to Sri Gopinathan, Coimbatore this concert performed for the founder’s day celebration of the college received great appreciation for Sathya and this is also because of the good audio system provided for the concert.

Sathya for Institute of Chartered Accountants Meet - 2007

Here is the audio link for the concert held on the 10th Jan'07. H/ever regret to say that the audio quality is not at its best. Pls do hear the 4th number which is on JOG ragam and is Sathya's own composition.

It was more of a musical ensemble Sathya provided to a select group of foriegn delegates of ICA, having a violin, mrudhangam, kanjeera, Tabla, Bass guitar, Drums and electronic Pad as his support. Due to rain arrangments on stage were changed in the last minute and thanks to smt Bhavani Balasubramaniam who was so helpful, the concert came out well. Sathya this day was very happy as he was having his athai's son palying Kanjeera and as they were communicating onstage there were certain momentary lapses which were readily rectified.

At Kalarasana for the 4th consecutive year

Sathya was performing at Kalarasana for the 4th consecutive year, thanks to the organizers and Sri Srinivasan in particular for patronizing Sathya. This year Sathya had Sri Anathapadmanabha on violin, Akshay Ananthapadmanabhan on Mrudhangam (from USA) and Aniruth Athreya on Kanjeera. The two hour concert was performed with good choice of songs and Sathya performed Dikshidhar’s Navagraha krithi Ankaragam – Suruti set to Rupakathalam for the first time, perfectly producing the required gamakas for this pleasing raga.

Akashay on Mrudhangam, being first time accompanying Sathya, performed well and may be after few more sittings will fit in better as he will be in a position to anticipate the style of Sathya’s precentation during Kalpanaswaras. Along with Anirudh they gave a good solo for the krithi Birana Brovayithey on Kalayani. Sathya and Anathapadmanabha’s raga alapana were very good and the swararagamalika on ragam Mohanam, Akapi and Brindavana Saranga during the main kalyani was excellent. The lsit of songs rendered are as follows:

01. Varnam – Navaragamalika – Adi
02. Vinayaka – Hamsadhwani – Adi (Ragam & Swaram)
03. Ankaragam – Suruti – Rupakam

A good concert for Indian Fine Arts 02-Jan'07

With Anayampati Venkatasubramaniam on Violin, Trivandrum Balaji on Mrudhangam & Sivaramakrishnan on Ghatam, Sathya gave a good sweat concert on the 2nd January 2007 from 1030 – 1200 noon at German Hall, T.Nagar. Sathya utilized the time given and gave a presentation which went well with the audience present in a decent number for a morning slot concert particularly being the first working day after a long holiday. Sathya performed Theliyaledhu Rama on Dhenuka for the first time and it came out very well.

The President of the Sabha while speaking before the concert ended appreciated Sathya’s ability. He opinioned that Sathya gave a alapana of Chakravagam for Gajananayutham with great perfection that he did not slip to Malayamarutham which is very close to this raga as one tends to fall in to this trap. He also appreciated the krithi on Navarasa Kanada – Ninuvina which to his opinion was rendered in the style of Sri T. R. Mahalingam on the flute. As per his request Sathya ended the concert with Swathi Thirunals’ thillana on ragam Dhanshree. Kudos to the accompanying artists as their quality performance enhanced the concert to its best level. The list is as follows:

01. Gajananayutham – Chakravagam – Adi (Ragam & Swaram)
02. Ninuvina – Navarasa Kanada – Rupakam
03. Dhudukugala – Gowla – Adi
04. Narayana – Suddha Dhanyasi – K’chaapu (Ragam)
05. Theliyaledhu Rama – Dhenuka – Adi
06. Sabapathikku – Aboghi – Rupakam (Ragam, Swaram and Thani)
07. Thillana – Dhanashree - Adi

Great way to Start a New Year – 1st January, 2007

It is indeed a great blessing for any artist to start the first day of a new year with a concert that too in the morning in a temple premises. Sathya and his team of Embar S Kannan on silent violin, Poongulam Subramaniam on Mrudhangam and K. V. Goplakrishnan on the Kanjeera had this fortune to perform at Sri Marundeeswarar Temple, Thiruvanmiyur from 729 to 945 am organized by Kunnakudy School of Music and T.S. Mahalingam & Sons on the 1st January, 2007.

The team started with a majestic, traditional Mallari on Gambera Naatai and gave the audience a treat full of music in the morning hours. Many were surprised to see this concert and even though had not planned listen to the concert, were made to stay as this team gave a great performance. Sathya as per his recent practice of playing the Navagraha krithi of the day performed Chnadram Bhaja – a Dikshidhar Krithi on ragam Asaveri set to Mattuya Thalam which was applauded all & by Smt Kunnakudy Bala in particular.

Embar Kannan being Sathya’s uncle and also a leading violin vidhwan gave great encouragement alsong with the percussion artists. Sathya performed as if it was his nth concert with this team even though it was their first appearance for a public concert. The detail of song list is as follows:

Nanganallur Sri Anjeneyar Temple concert 30th Dec’06

It was indeed a great platform for Sathya to finish off the year 2006 in this concert at Nanganallur Sri Anjeneyar Temple as part of the 32nd Annual Hanumar Jayanthi festival. L Ramakrishnan on violin, Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and Harihara Sebramaniam on the Ghatam were the team members for this concert with Sathya. Before the concert began Mr Parthasarathy, Organiser informed that the hall will have its capacity audience for Sathya and it was indeed packed by around 520pm. The concert was from 5 – 630pm but got extended till almost 7pm. The next concert to be performed was by Sangeetha Kalanithi Sri T. N. Seshagopalan.

Sathya started the concert with Abogi varnam and did 3 kalams which was applauded by the knowledgeable audience. It was indeed a new experience for Sathya to hear almost 7 to 8 hundred people giving applause after his krithis and this will definitely enhance his confidence further on. Ramakarishnan, Suriyanarayanan and Harihara Subramaniam played their roll to their best and the thani was indeed crisp & sweat. As mentioned by a rasika the alapanas by Sathya and Ramakrishnan for Vasantha & Aberi were great. The kalpanaswaras for Vasantha, Nalinakanthi and Aberi werereally enjoyable.

Being a Saturday Sathya performed Diwakaradhanujam on Yadhukulakambodhi – a Dikshidhar’s Navagraha krithi on Lord Saneeswarar. During the main piece of Nagumomu in Aberi Sathya took to second speed while playing the charanam and completed with an arudhi which probably did not come to Sathya’s liking, even though there was ao grammatical error. Also it was found difficult for the percussion artists to play thani at that speed, a point for Sathya to remember in future. Sathya gave a brief alapana for all the ragas of the ragamalika Krithi Kuraionrum illai and it was very much appreciated by the audience. The list of krithis performed are as follows:

01. Varnam - Abogi – Adi
02. Sri Mahaganapathim – Attana _ Adi
03. Seethamma Mayamma – Vasantha – Rupakam (Ragam & K’Swaram)
04. Diwakarathanujam – Yadhukula Kambodhi – Dhruva Thalam
05. Manavyalakim – Nalinakanthi – Adi (Kalpanaswaram)
06. Ramananu Brovara – Harikambodhi – Rupakam
07. Nagumomu – Aberi – Adi (Ragam & K’Swaram)
08. Jagadhodharaka – Kaapi – Adi
09. Venkatachalanilayam – Sindhubhairavi – Adi
