What a great blessing for Sathya to have received this blessing!!

Thanks to Dr Saraswathi madam and Sri Raja for having given this opurtunity to perform infront of this great legendary r. Balamuralikrishna ji. It was like the best appreciation Sathya has ever got till date. This has given us more confidence that Sathya's efforts to bring the nuances on this instrument is getting recognised and is indeed one of the greatest day in Sathya's life! He also had great dancer & his amma's Bharathanatyam gurus Smt. & Sri Narasimachari who were there through out the concert and blessed Sathya.

Sathya's song list was very much appreciated by the knowledgeble audience as he had taken three of Dr. Balamuralikrishna's composition. Sathya being awarded "Yuva Kala Vipanchee" on 31st December 2008

It has been a great start for Sathya's December 2008 Chennai Music festival with the new of being awarded "Yuva Kala Vipanchi" by the prestigious forum "Vipanchee" which is under the Chairmanship of the great legendary Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna. This award will be received on the 31st December'08 by Sathya.

December performance has began with a performance of bhajans in his school group at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha from 5 - 630pm and it is indeed a great oppurtunity to be a part of Namasankeerthanam.

Sathya also got a prelude of December season with blessings of Sri B.U.Ganeshprasad on Violin, Sri J. Vaidhyanathan on Mrudhangam and Sri Purushothaman on the Kanjeera when they enhanced him in a private concert on the 22nd Nov'08. Here is few video and audio clipping links of that concert.

Sri C.R. Gopinathan - A great well wisher of Carnatic Music passed away on the 30th oct'08

Gopi mama as fondly called by all musicians is no more with us! Yes it was indeed a shocking news to us and the entire Carnatic music fraternity when we got to know that this great humble person passed away in the late hours on the 30th Oct'08. He was so near and dear to Sathya and our family and we have no words to express our sadness. While it is a great loss for his family, it is indeed a greater loss for a big family of Carnatic musicians who have been taken care on one to one basis whenever a musician visits Coimbatore for concerts organised by him. We had the luxury of having his dearness with He himself coming to receive Sathya when we go to Coimbatore. We can never forget the great treatment we have enjoyed during the visits to his house and it will indeed be a great difficulty to visit Coimbatore for a concert now as he will no longer be there to give us the royal treatments. It is indeed a great loss for the artist community of Carnatic music and am sure there is any one who can match his way of treating an artist better. Let's us pray for his soul to rest in peace.

For the second year in succession Sathya got an oppurutnity to perform on the Vijayadhasami day - 9th Oct'08 this year, at the Koothanur Saraswathi Temple and went well. The team with Pakala Jayaprakash on violin, Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and Hariharasubramanian on Ghatam & Morsing made an impressive concert which was well received by the audience. It is indeed a great blessing to perform in this temple, probably one of the first temple dedicated to Goddess Sarawathi in the world, particularly on the Vijayadhasami day.

Starting with Navaragamalika Varnam, Sathya followed it up with Mahaganapathim in Naatai. A rare oppurtunity to perform in SaiBaba Temple on a Thursday

It was indeed his blessings that Sathya got this oppurtunity to perform at the SaiBaba Temple, Venkatesa Aghraharam on the 2nd Oct'08. After a long time Ramakrishnan was there to enhance Sathya's concert on violin and Kumbakonam Swaminathan was on Mrudhangam while Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan played Kanjeera. A divine ambience and a soulful rendering of the team marked the day with the moving audience many preferring to stay back to sit and listen & a elderly person coming on stage to bless with Akshadhai were the mark of success of the concert. It was also a surprise for Sathya's grandmother when he performed Parthapara and Sarasijanabhasodhari as she had asked him to learn these just 15 days before. Sathya with his uncle Embar S. Kannan at Madurai Sathguru Sangeetha Samajam 20 Sep'08

Sathya received one of the best compliments after a concert performance, from Embar S. Kannan - his uncle, who was with Sathya enhancing the concert with Thillaisthanam R. Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and S. Hariharasubramanian on the Ghatam. Appreciation was not only for the presentation but also for the list of krithis selected apart from the fact that this one of the fisrt concert Sathya was performing without his father (myself) being present on stage. (May be a blessing too!)

I received call from Sri Balu, who was instrumental for this concert arrangement with Sri Dasaratha Raja of Rajapalayam. Mr Balu informed that the audience present in good number were so happy on the performance of Sathya and team. He said being first time a keyboard concert was being presented in the Samajam, they were little apprehensive but the performance had got the best appreciation of one and all present. They now look forward to Sathya being featured on regular basis.

The only disappointment was that the Transcend recorder which is normally used in all Sathya's concert failed and so audio was not recorded. H/ever thanks to Sathya's mother, clippings of video are available and you can view same in the following link.

The list of krithis rendered are as follows:

Concert at Srigeri Sharadhambal Temple - 14th Sep'08

It was indeed a great oppurtunity for Sathya to perform in front of the His Holiness Acharya of Sankara Math, Sringeri during his puja on the 14th Sep'08 morning. With Vittalarangan on Violin Sathya performed two krithis, Guruleka Yetuvanti in Gowri Manohari - as dedication to the Gurus followed by Nammam Sharadhey - Hamsadwani dedicating to the Goddess Sharadhambal. After replying in negative when one of the sadhus asked if Sathya knew to play a bhajan on Sringeri Math, Sathya learnt it on the spot from the Sadhu and Sri Prabhakar Rao and performed it too! The Sadhu was taken by surprise and praised Sathya for this great attempt which came out very well. Both the children were blessed by Acharya personally and it was one of the great moments for the artists, thanks to Sri Prabhakar Rao, Sharadha Sasthriya Sangetha Sabha who had organised a concert same evening at the Temple premises in the Pravachana Mandira the same evening.

The concert started with a Mallari in GambeeraNattai set to Adi thalam with kalpanaswaram. This was followed by raga alapana on Hamsadwani for the krithi Vathapi. The kalpanaswaram was performed on the veechu i.e. Hamsadwani poojithey he-rambam- a first time attempt by Sathya and presented well by the team of Vittalarangan on Violin on Violin and Sri. M. R. Srikrishnan on the Mrudhangam. Hariharasubramaniam who had a long journey of almost 20 hours from Palani to Sringeri reached and just got on to the stage and was as brisk as the others through out the concert! A perfect endurance test which he came out with flying colors. The large audience were present all throughout and appreciated the efforts of all the artists for their excellent performance inspite of the fact that they were jamming together for the first time. The raga alapanas and kalpanaswarams were matched with great rendition by both Sathya and Vittalarangan & Srikrishnan and Hariharasubramaniam excelled in their thani. It was one of the best concerts presented by Sathya and his team.

Concert at Vidhya Vinayagar Temple, Nellore 04 Sep'08

Public concerts are always challenging as we get the complete attention of the audience and you are expected to give your best to the satisfaction of them. Well a real difficult task which however Sathya & his team of Pakala Jayaprakash on Violin, Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and Hariharasubramanian on Ghatam & Morsing managed well and won the hearts of a large aucience who had turned out to listen to this concert.

Being a concert for Vinayagar Chaturthi, Sathya for the first part performed 4 Vinayagar krithis each followed by one other composition. His alapanas and kalpana swarams were matched well by Jayaprakash on violin. Suriyanarayanan and Hariharasubramanian were at their very best right from the word go and enhanced the concert in all the ways possible. as requested by the audience Sidhivinaagam in ragam Shanmugapirya set to Rupaka thalam was performed as the main krithi with ragamalika of bindhumalini and Kalyani performed both in alalpana & kalpanaswara

Dr Sainath, a leading Musicologist and Sri Suresh a famous vidwan of Nellore were also there almost for the entire concert and gave their impressions after the thani. They were very specific in appreciating Sathya's efforts on the nuances performed on the keyboard and also appreciated teh team for having a great coordination. Special thanks to Sri Balaji, Gurukal of the temple who had initiated this concert with the temple authority Mr Sankar. The way we were treated by Sri Sankar's family members only made us understand how they give importance to the phrase "Adithi Devo bhava". After the fifth song, many in the audience who were moved by Sathya's efforts, started giving him gifts in cash after each song and you find one young child doing the same above. A great blessing for the team.

These kind of cocnerts raise the confidence levels of every artist and yes Sathya now is looking forward to his trip to Sringeri for a concert on the 14th Sep'08 at the Sringeri Math and we are sure he will be blessed by the divine god and the Acharya Guru there.

The list of the krithis performed are as under with a link for you to listen to them:

"Eppadi Padinaro" series at Bangalore on 24th Aug'08

It was a concert in a divine atmosphere at "Sri Sringeri Sharada Math", Chamrajpet, Bangalore with Karaikal Venkatasubramanian on violin, Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and Hariharasubramanian on Ghatam & Morsing. After playing cricket almost for the whole day at his host's residence Sathya and team did give a good performance which was well acknowledged by very interested rasikas who had turned up in god numbers. There were many who were sitting outside the hall and it was also a pleasant experience to listen to music in that atmosphere filled with divinity. The hall had a good acoustic ambience and all went well with just an ordinary PA system, with the grace of the almighty!

It was a good team effort as every one sincerely contributed in their own might for the success of the concert which was felt with most of them staying back till the end of the concert. The list of krithis performed are as under and you can listen to the songs in the following link:

Recognition for Keyboard in Bhajans at Tambras Bhajan Competition

It was indeed nice to see Keyboard being used extensively in many forms of music and in particualr - Bhanjans too. Yes in the competition held yesterday 10th Aug'08 at Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Adyar, Chennai by TAMBRAS - Mandavali unit for the 17th Year, Judges made a special mention of the effective usage of Keyboard by Sai Krishnan and Harikrishnan (one of them played Tabla). It is indeed a sort of recognition this instrument is slowly getting and we are sure this will be accepted by one and all in very few years to come.

Sathya had the oppurtunity to be with his School Team being awarded the "Pride of Honour Award" and here is the link for the photos. Above is the clippings on video of the performance.

Sathya had got a good oppurtunity in the 100 hour Marathon Carnatic Non stop Concerts organised by "Global Carnatic Music Association" at Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Vidwat Samajam performed by various artists. This event is a tribute to the doyen of Carnatic Music Sri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer celebrating the birth centenary year in addition to various other causes.

Almost all the leading, upcoming artists are participating in this Marathon effort orgaised by Sri Sashikiran and Smt Sudha Raghunathan and Sathya also got a good oppurtunity to show case his musical thoughts on keyboard. It was so blessing that a senior artist like Smt Radha Sundharesan enhanced this concert on violin with Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and Hariharasubramanian on Ghatam. Sathya's turn was after Ms. K. Gayathri's wonderful performance and it was indeed a challenge of sorts for Sathya to make the audience sit and listen to his concert after a vocal performance and made it with the grace of Almighty and a perfect team effort. .

Sathya started of with Sankarineeve in Begada with a outline of the ragam and also played few rounds KalpanaSwaram. He then took Kamakshi - Bhairavi Swarajathi with a raga alapana with the krithi rendered in the right kalapramanam which later was appreciated by the audience. Sathya then played a speedy number in Vidajaaladuraa in ragam Janaranjani set to Adi thalam and made every one to look at his ability to play a fast krithi. He then took alapana of Varali followed by the krithi Ka Va VA. Sathya finished the concert with a Narayanan Theerthar Tharangam in Kalyani which had a good round of applause for the way it was presented in two speeds. Smt Radha Sundherasn who had enhanced the concert with her very supportive and encouraging performance, after the concert said, "Having heard of Sathya and being first time seeing him perform, I was enjoying his style and his presentation rather their actually accompany him. I wish him all success and he is sure to come up very well in the near future". Suriyanarayanan and Hari were at their best today with great percussion support and enriched the concert level with good energy.

Sri Sashikiran on completion of the concert appreciated Sathya's performance and made special mention about the ragas Sathya had taken up for the day. He wished him all the very best for his future.

Nadhikeswara Thala Vidhyalaya Concert - 13th Jul'08

Kudos to Sri Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan who had honoured 2 artisans in the morning on this 14th year Annual day function of Nandhikeswarar Thala Vidhyalaya held on 13th Jul'08 at Chrompet Cultural Academy, Chrompet. After the concert he was also appreciated for having organised a good team for the evening concert just before distributing the certificates to the students of his institution.

"It was one among the best of Sathya's concerts i have attended" was the quote from Sathya's grandfather after the concert. He was overwhelmed on the response of the huge audience (around 500+) who had been cheering the team of Sathya on Keyboard, Karaikal Venkatasubramaniam on Violin, S.J. Arjun Ganesh on Mrudhangam, Valaingaiman HariharaSubramaniam on Ghatam and Valaingaiman Sathyanarayanan on Moharsing, right from the varnam.

A good start with Sathya rendering Mohana varnam in the style of Sri Kovai Dakshanamoorthy with 3 kalams in one avarthanam was followed by Vinayaga krithi in Bilahari. Sathya played krithis in Misrachapu, Kandachapu, Rupakam and took the main krithi in Adi thalam. The thani avarthanam which went on to almost 20 mts was indeed a treat to the students of Nandhikeshwarar Thala Vidhyalaya.

The moving sight was the students putting thalam for almost the entire concert duration and in particular for the thani avarthanam. The medley Sathya played was the masterpiece of the day.

The details of the songs performed are as under and same can be listened in the audio link: http://sangeethamshare.org/sathya/017_Chrompet-Nadhikeswarar-Thala-Vidhyalaya-13jul08/

There was the audience request for Marugelara and Kurai onrum Illai which were also performed. Here is the audio link for the tracks and hope you all will enjoy same.

Maha Periyava's blessings for Sathya with a performance on 20th MAy'08

Sathya in Maha Periyava Jayanthi in Thiruvengadu, TamilNadu

It was a dream come true and a golden oppurtunity to perform for Maha Periyava's Jayanthi at Thiruvengadu on the 20th May'08. Yes from the time our friend Mr Hariharan whose child is a student of this Patasala in Thiruvengadu took us there we always wanted an oppurtunity and it could have no better day than the Jayanthi day of Maha Periyava for Sathya to perform here. We all felt the presence of Periyava and the concert with his grace came out very well with Villiwakkam Raghuraman on Violin, Arjun Ganesh on the Mrudhangam and Harihara Subramaniam on the Ghatam. We had left Chennai around 6am and reached Thiruvengadu around 1230pm after a brief stop in Pondy at the Mother's Ashram. The concert was scheduled for the after noon from 330 - 530 and the entire audience had been cheering the artist with their appreciation.

Once Chandrasekara song was performed as the 5th song, the audience became very lively and were with full of energy. It is a padasala teaching Vedic lessons to the students and this day they were bringing in various students from TamiNadu for a interactive session. The Jayathi and this Patasala is being managed by Advocate Sri Venkatasubramaniam who spends his wealth and health for these students. It was fortunate that we knew a father Sri Hariharan, of a student by name Chandrasekar that we visited this holy place and also had the opportunity to perform with this ever living God Maha Periyava. You can see the photos taken at the venue in the link above and also few video clippings in the following link.

Sathya was presented with a brass bracelet which was in the hands of a great Veda Upasagar Sri Natarajan who wanted all his blessings to be showered on Sathya with this present. It has a Vinayagar embossed with OM encrypted all over the bracelet. a divine oppurtunity and a divine gift too!!

A great moment in our life

It was indeed a great moment when we got a call from Mr Murugan, Asst. of Sri Raj Koti - a leading Telugu Film Music Director, enquiring if Sathya can play for their new project on Annamacharya krithis to be recorded for TTD, Tirupathi. The interesting thing is that Sathya has been called as an artist performing Carnatic on Keyboard and this really is indeed a great blessing and the recording started on the Akshayathrithi day -8th May and 9th May'09. It is indeed a great blessings as this was for a project of Anamacharya Krithis and also funded by Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams. We sincerely hope with the blessings of Lord Balaji Sathya should keep growing strength to strength in his musical knowledge and with his health.
