Performance in the team heArtbeat - 25th Feb’07.

Sathya was happy to perform in Ghatam Karthick’s heArtbeat for a private concert in Trichy after his solo concert at Kumbakonam. While Sathya is happy to perform with anybody this day performing with his uncle Embar S Kannan he was only too happy.

Concert for Janaranjani Sabha, Kumbakonam 24th Feb’07

Mr Gopalan, Secy was not expecting a big crowd on this day the 24th Feb’07 as there were many activities taking part for audience participation including the episode of Kalakapovadhu Yaaru for a TV Channel. How ever god was kind to Sathya with a good turn out of audience for his concert which he started with an Athi thala Mallari in Gambeera Naatai, as wished by Mr Gopalan.

Sathya was having Sri Poongulam Subramaniam as his enhancement artiste on Mrudhangam with B. Ananthakrishnan on Violin. It was indeed a great rendition of Vaathapi by Sathya with Poongulam Subramaniam’s percussion. The entire concert was filled with great energy. Ananthakrishnan exhibited his proves during the alapanas, kalpanaswaras and gave a perfect enhancement during the krithis.

Chennai Sangamam Concert on 23rd Fe'07 Back to back concert for teh third day

The concept of “Chennai Sangamam” is surely a great success and who ever masterminded this project should be appreciated. In the days of all the sabhas complaining about the low attendance this concept would definitely boost and initiate the people to attend concerts from now on. Yes this has really shown a new way of spending time usefully for people who probably thought music was not their preference against movies and TV channel.

The audience present for this morning concert did imply this and Sathya presented an audience friendly concerts with almost all popular numbers. The reason was to make even people hearing / attending concert first time to get interest and lure them to attend more such concerts.

B Ananthakrishnan on Violin and Kumbakonam Swaminathan on Mrudhangam gave an excellent enhancement and the team did achieve what probably the organizers of “Chennai Sangamam” wanted namely creating interest to the mass.

Fusion Music under Chitraveena Sri Ravikiran 22.02.07

It was indeed a great recognition extended once again by Sri Ravikiran to have Sathya as one of his team member for the Fusion concept concert rendered for “Chennai Sangamam” at Mada Veedhai, Mylapore in front of Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple (Main Gopuram).

Sri Ravikiran leading the team of Sri K.V. Prasad on Mrudhangam, Sow. Akkarai Subulakshmi on violin, Smt Anuradha Pal on the Tabla (the only women tabla artiste in the world as introduced by the organizer) and Sathya gave an excellent concert.

The concert was presented in a manner that even a novice / first time listener of our traditional form of music relished and enjoyed. Well this is the motive of the concept “Chennai Sangamam” and the artist to the caliber of Sri Ravikiran did extend his full support with this concert.

Starting the concert with his own compositions 1. Cold coffee on ragam Kaapi and 2. Moon flowers on ragam Suryagantham, Sri Ravikiran performed the ever melodious ragam Kadhanakudhugalam. Sri Ravikiran gave a great exposure to Sathya during the raga alapana of Suryagantham in which he brought out the nuances of Carnatic music on the keyboard by guiding Sathya to play the phrases he performed on the Chitra Veena. The audience was very appreciative and this will go a long way to register the arrival of Keyboard in the Carnatic music forum. He also gave ample opportunity to Sow. Akkarai Subbulakshmi to showcase her talents. Sri K V Prasad & Smt Anuradha Pal’s’s excellent accompaniment on the Mrudhangam added flavor and so was the thani avarthanam.

Sri Ravikiran then completed the concert with a Bharathiar’s composition Aasai Marandhu Poche in ragam Jonpuri, The large audience enjoyed every moment of the concert and so did our Chief Ministers wife and the Smt Kanimozhi with her family. A blessed opportunity & experience for Sathya once again to be performing with Sri Ravikiran’s team.

Jugalbandhi on Keyboard - Brahma Gana Sabha 20th Feb'07

It is indeed for the first time ever this concept was happening. Thanks to the thought of Sri A Natarajan, former Director Doordharshan Madras, who had this idea and staged it for Brahma Gana Sabha on 20th Feb'07 at Narada Gana Sabha. Yes, a Jugalbandhi on keyboard - may be a lighter subject today but indeed a history was created with Carnatic on Keyboard Sathya and Hindustani on Keyboard Adithi joined together and performed a show.

With Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and Ganesh Rao on Tabla the team of 4 gave a good presentation which had a august gathering with Padmashree Sri Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti and Sri Natarajan to name a few. There were also artists, press and rasikas and a sincere thanks to each one of the audience who had turned up here.

Starting with Hamsadwani raga alapana the duo of Sathya and Adithi gave a brief alapana in thier own style of music and then after playing the pallavi of Vaathapi Ganapathim went on to explore their kalpanai for the swara elaboration.

It was then a individual session with Sathya performing detailed raga - Nagumomu on Aberi followed with swaram which was uplauded by one and all. Adithi took up Beemplas the similar colour of raga and made alapana and played gat with kalapanaswaram receiving appriciation from all.
Then the duo took up Hindolam - Malkouns combination as the main to play a popular phrase. Both gave a great presentation of the raga alapana and exhibited their manodharma. Both Suriyanarayanan and Ganesh Rao gave excellent enhancement with their style of playing their instruments and also gave a crisp thani.
The concert concluded with a brief expansion of Desh raag aalapana followed by Vandhey Matharam. It was indeed a great presentation by the team considering the fact that the team rehersed for just 2 hours due to paucity of time. I think we can look forward to more such concerts in future.

"Beethovan Re-incarnated Award"- by Rotasia to Sathya

It was indeed a great surprise to us on the 16th Feb'07 evening when we were informed by the ROTASIA organizer that Sathya is to be given an award under the title of "Beethovan Re-incarnated Award". Rotasia also honoured Mstr Siddharth Nagarajan and Ms Athira Krishna with award titled Master of Percussion and Princess of String respectively on the same day.
All the three awardees gave a performance for almost an hour and it was a great evening for the audience. While Siddharth made every one dance to his foot tapping rhythm solo Sathya & Athira mesmorized the crowd with their masterly own compositions. The result of the Trio's success came out in the form of Sri AVM Balasubrmaniam - AVM Studios, coming forward to offer his studio time free of cost for the trio to make a project. Kudos to the Trio of Sathya, Siddharth and Athira.
