Concert for Children Garden School on 23 Apr 06





Sathya today performed at the Children Garden School, RK Salai, Mylapore for their teacher's felicitation function which is held every year on the 23rd April being the founder's day. He had his enchancement team of B Anthankrishnan on violin, Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on mrudhangam and Harihara Subramaniam on the ghatam.

This concert every year is organizes by Sri Venkatraman, Secy, Mylapore Fine Arts Club, who is a parent of 2 old students of this school. Every one who attended appreicated Sathya's performance and thanked Sri Venkatraman for this idea of Sathya's performance. The entire team performed with such a great understanding that many wanted to know if they were rehersing on regular basis.

70 years old school founded by Mr/s Sharma is one of the leading school's of Chennai and their teacher Mrs Gomathi from their branch showered blessings to Sathya in the form of a poem and was indeed a great treat to everyone. Mr Venkatraman was also felicitated for the services he was rendering to the school.

Sathya today performed for a wedding reception and had the blessings of great Ghatam vidhwan Sri E M Subramaniam who was enchansing Sathya's concert along with Sri Ananthapadmanabha on violin and Sri Trivandrum Balaji on mrudhangam.

It was a great concert with the audience enjoying every krithi played by this team and Sri EMS blessed Sathya with his assurance to be with him whenever he is free for stage shows.

Sathya concert review in Dinamalar dated 21.04.06

Sathya performing a grand light music concert


Sathya on the 21st April'06 performed a grand light music concert for his friend and his group's singer Ms Rekha's wedding reception in Chennai. Sri Suriyanarayanan - Bass Guitar, Sri Sridhar - Drums, Sri Pradeep - Tabla, Sri Ravishankar - Mrudhangam, Vocal support and support Keyboard for few songs were on stage with Sathya.

Sathya played his mainstream i.e Carnatic on Keyboard and the film songs were song by his Lalitha, Father Krishnababu and friends Mr Hari and Srinivas.

Sathya performs his 250th concert at New Delhi for CII on the 19th Apr'06



Sathya got a great oppurtunity to perform for CII, at New Delhi through Sri Mudhra Bhaskar and in the presence of Mr and Mrs Seshasayee, Dir. Ashok Leyland. This was Sathya's 250th concert. Sathya was accompanied by Smt Jayamangala Krishnamani on mrudhangam and they gave an excellent presentation for about one and half hours. This concert had Mstr R Sriram also on stage performing with Sri Ramiah on the mrudhangam.
All the artists presented Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram and Vandhey Matheram at the end. The artists gave a good performance and were was well received and applauded by the audience. Mr & Mrs Seshasayee in particular appriciated the artists and blessed them for a wonderful future.

Sathya for IWA meet at the CG's residence of US Consulate



Sathya today had the oppurtunity to perform once again with Paul Jacob for Bodhi Music under 'Funky Bodhi' in the concert organised for International Women's Association at the residence of The Consulor General of USA.

Sathya on Keyboard with Donan Murray on the lead Guitar, Paul Jacob on the Bass guitar and Balakrishnan on the Mrudhangam made a great team and enthralled the IWA members with a 45 mts perfomance. The team took up Mallari on ragam Gambeera Nattai and went on developing with led gutar and keyboard making a great combination and the bass guitar and mrudhangam giving boost to enchancethe music.
Nirosta ragam krithi was taken as the second one and it was indeed a pleasant number with both the guitar artists enjoying the western color of the raga. This was followed by a pallavi on Sumesaranjani and involver free kalpanaswara prayogam by keyboard and lead guitar touching phrses on Mohanam & Kalyani. The team ended the concert with Thillana on Revathy and the entire crowd appreciated the blending of instruments by taking pure carnatic raga based krithis.
This This show was followed by the music of 'Okiyatan' another concept of Bodhi Music were Karthick, a folk singer from Bengal and Bone Chakravarthy gave a great vocal numbers. Infact the IWA members have shown great interest to stage an exclusive show shoon.

Sathya's performance for a chamber concert on 17th april'06





After the private wedding concert on the 3rd April'06 Sathya performed carnatic chamber concert today the 17th April'06 at # 1 Nehru Nagar Adyar, Chennai - 20 for Kunnakudy School of Music and T S Mahalingam & Sons and sponsored by Mahalakshmi Boutique.

Sathya started off the concert with a varnam on Amruthavarshni set to Athi thalam composed by Sri Seshadri. He then played Gajananayutham on ragam Chakravagam with a brief alapana and had a good kalpana swaras at the end. He had Smt Anuthama Subramaniam on violin Sishya of Kalaimamani Kum. A Kanyakumari and Smt Jayamangala Krishnamani on mrudhangam (Sishya of Sri Manargudi Eswaran), a real good mrudhangam artist who is a Yuva Kala Bharathi Awardee for vocal music.

The third krithi was Mamavasadha on Natakurunji set to Rupakam . The Bandhuvarali krithi of Dikshidar's Visalakshi set to Misra Chappu had a expanded kalpana swaras and all the three did an excellent co-ordination. Ravichadrika raga krithi Niravathisukadha on athi was performed in a brisk tempo and was followed by a rendition of Nalinakanthi raga alapana for the krithi Neepathamegathi set to Rupaka thalam.

Sathya went on to play Raja Raja a rare krithi on ragam Nirosta of Muthaih Bagavathar which was followed by a brisk Marugelara on Jayanthasri. The main krithi was Intha Sowkyamu which had an elaborate Kaapi alapna in which Sathya explored the nuances of the instrument to perform Carnatic music. He went on to do perform swararagamalika with Swarasammohini and Charukesi. The way in which he finished with a round of Charukesi Swarasammohini and then on to Kaapi gained applause from the handful of knowledgeable audience.

Sathya took up Kartrinile varum geetham followed by Lalgudi's Jonpuri thillana and ended the concert with Bagyadhalaksmi on Madhyamavathy. Smt Kunnakudi Bala went on to express that it was some vidwan who is in Sathya who is bringing the music out thru his fingers on the keyboard and this is indeed a great appreciation for this child's efforts. Every one in the audience were praising Sathya and appreciated the way he is shaping up.

Both the enhancement artist played their roll to the perfection and got the appreciation of the audience.

Sathya with his 1st guru's Guru



Sathya had the oppurtunity to get the blessings of Sangeetha Bhushanam Sri S V Parthasarathy (SVP) who is Sathya's 1st guru Sri Embar S Sadagopan's guru. Given are the pictures to share Sathya's pleasant moments with his guru's guru.
Sri SVP had the distinction of studying in Annamalai University and later became its Dean and served for many years. He also had been the producer in All India Radio, Trichy. Sri SVP has been honoured by the Sangeetha Natak Academy Award this year by the Central Government. Rasikas can hear his concert on 8th April'06 in FM Gold at 5pm.

Few details of are being shared here for general information:

Sri SVP was born in 1917 and is the son of the great humorous writer of repute popularly known as SVV. He had his formal training under his mother and after his schooling joined the Music College of Annamalai University in 1934. He had the good fortune to study under great legends like Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri T S Sabesa Iyer, K Ponniah Pillai, Tiger R Varadhachariar and Saathur Krishna Iyengar. In 1938 he secured 1st class and got the title Sangeetha Bhushanam and has been performing concert even today. He is also a fine veena player.

Since 1938 Sri SVP has been singing in AIR as a top grade artiste in classical music and is also given top ranking as Light Music composer in AIR. Considering his merit and popularity as a concert artiste Annamalai University offered him lecturer post in Music in 1954. After two year in service he then joined All India Radio, Trichy and served for almost 22 years.

Later in 1985 he was joined Annamalai University as Professor of Musician the Music College and later was promoted as Head of the Department of Music and Dean of Fine Arts. He was one of the very early artistes to give recordings in Gramophone Disc of Columbia Gramophone Company in 1949.

In 1977 Sayee Matha Devi of Shanmada Ashramam of Pudukottai, Tamilnadu honoured him with the title "Sangeetha Samraat".

In 1993 he was conferred the title of "Nadakkanal" by the members of Nadakkanal.

In 1996 Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha conferred him with Senior Musician Award.

In 2003 Sri Semangudi Iyer Trust honoured his with Senior Musician Award.

In 2003 Sruthi Foundation and Mrudhanga Vidwan Sri Vellore Ramabadran honoured him with "Gopalacharya Memorial Award"

Mudhra - at the new Venue from Apr'06


Mudhra, a leading orgnisation promoting Arts & Culture conducting events for the last 11 years, today innaguraed their operation at their new venue i.e. at Ramakrishna Mission Matriculation Higher econdary School Auditorium, # 71 Bazullah Road, T Nagar Chennai - 17 (behind Vivek Show Room in North Usman Road).
Swami Padmasthananda Maharaj lighted the kuthuvillaku and Padmashree Dr Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti formally inagurated.
Mstr K Sathyanarayanan had the oppurtunity to perform Carnatic on Keyboard from 425 - 550 pm with his enchansement artists Sri B Ananthakrishnan on Violin and Sri R Yogaraj on Mrudhangam. Sathya started the concert with Nattakurinji varnam which was followed by Sri Mahaganapathey in Abogi - Kandachappu thalam. Then he took a brief alapana of Bhairavi for Swathithirunal's Janani Mamava set to Misra Chappu thalam.
After a brisk Marugelara, Thyagaraja krithi on ragam Jayathasri, Sathya went on to give a RTP on keeravani that was followed with swararagamalika on ragams Kaapi, Sumenesa Ranjani and Brindavana Sarangi. He then went on to play Purandaradasar's Jagadhodharaka and Bharathiar's Theeratha Villayatu pillai before ending the concert with a thillana on Revathy coposed by Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman set to Misra Chappu.
After the inaguration function Kalaimamani O. S. Arun & party gave Bhajans.

Sathya's concert at Arupadai Veedu Temple - Besant Nagar - Chennai


Sathya today performed his 245th concert at Arulmigu arupadai Veedu Temple, Besant Nagar, Chennai. His enhancement artists for the day were Sri Mannarkudi Srinivasan on violin, Sri R Karthikeyan on Mrudhangam and Sri Kotayam Radhakrishnan on Ghatam. The programme was thru' Mrs Thyagarajan and was sponsored by Sri Krishna Sweets under their daily programme for 365 days scheme.

It was for the first time Sathya was performing here and had a good number of audience till the end of the concert from 630 - 850pm
