Iskon Temple concert, Seattle May 05, 2009

This is indeed a special concert in a way that this was arranged just after Mr Srikanth, from ISKON Temple had been to the concert on May 3rd and checked with ISKON authorities to arrange Sathya's concert there on 5th May'09. It was also great to have a full house audience of over 350 - 400 for the concert and it was well received. There were few who had seen Sathya perform in their family's wedding concert in Chennai and few who had attended few December season concerts in Chennai also. The team presented more krithi more of audience Request (AR) of Lord Krishna Narayana, Rama krithis, few bhajans and a Thillana as well. Seattle Concert at HTCC Shiva Vishu Temple, Bothel 03 May'09

When you are on a winning note the matches are always interesting and so was this back to back concert after the successful one on 2nd May at Livermore Temple. It was at the HTCC Siva Vishnu Temple, Bothel, Seattle on the May 3rd, 2009 Sathya with Embar Kannan and Poongulam Subramnian gave another scintillating performance, i say this as they actually got another concert fixed up at a nearby temple - a fresh booking after seeing this performance for the 5th May'09 in Seattle itself. Blessed with the presence of Dr Santhoshkumar, A Veena Vidwan and many known people from India the team did well considering the fact that they had a flt travel and that the concert actually was from 3-6pm. Hard work with commitment pays and so was seen here too. The audience present joined Sathya to chant Rama namavali at the end which was really moving the hearts of all.

The list of krithis rendered are as follows:

01. Varnam - Mohanam - Adi

in heArtbeat with a "PaceMaker" 02 May'09

It was indeed a difficult job handed over the the team of Embar Kannan on silent violin, Ponngulam Subramanian on Mrudhangam Sathya on keyboard and Sriram on Rhythm Pad & Morsing to perform the heArtbeat ensemble concept in the absence of Dr. Ghatam Karthick at the Livermore Temple on the 2nd May'09. Yes as Dr Karthick could not make it due to unforeseen circumstances, Poongulam Subramanian acted as the "Pacemaker" for this "heArt to beat" taking up Vocal, Kanjeera and Konnakol to make this concert a grand success. Poongulam sang an outstanding melody for Shanmugapriya and he was appreciated not only by the audience but also by Embar Kannan for his great efforts.

Embar Kannan took up the role of compering along with his usual best violin rendition with Sathya & Sriram doing their best and the team was praised for their grand show yesterday. The raga aalapana for Rathipathipriya, Vanaspathi and Shanmugarpriya by Embar Kannan and Jog & Shanmugapriya by Sathya were simply outstanding. Sathya's support on keypads & bass guitar support for Vanaspathi piece were note worthy. Here is the link for the video clippings and hope everyone enjoys the same. The entire, almost full house, audience gave a standing ovation and there was also lots of youth who had attended the concert turned up at the end to enquire on nuances of carnatic on keyboard and also to know about the silent violin played by Embar Kannan. The success was known with lots of mails reaching the same night to congratulate the team on their splendid performance.

Concert for CAMAGA - ATLANTA - 26th April'09

This was the first concert to have been performed in a temple. It was a great Balaji temple and also had a Shiva temple adjacently. The concert here had main krithi on ragam Thodi and also a RTP on Reethigowla with phrase - "Mal Maruganai Muruganai Pani Maname - Maneme Diname Ninaindhidu" in kandajathi Thriputa thalam. Raga aalapana, The thanam, the thrikalam of pallavi and the kalpanaswarams were all appreciated very much by the audience who gave once again a standing ovation.

It has been a good concert presentation tour (and o is off the concert) for this team and hope Sathya maintains and does his best in the rest. Dr Ram Sriram one o the officials of CAMAGA - Atlanta, gave a good speech highlighting all the positives of all the three artists and Sathya in particular. St Louis concert for Sangeetha on april 25, 2009

A perfect change in weather form 38 degree F to 90 degree F bringing remembrance of Chennai weather for all of us did not change the quality of performance by the team of Sathya, Embar Kannan and Poongulam Subramanian this day. Ms Mahitha Bharadwaj, who also performs Carnatic on keyboard introduced the artists and it was one of the nice things that a cultural exchange of keyboard artists has taken place with this concert in St. Louis as Ms Mahitha has already performed in Chennai the city where Sathya lives. The main ragam for the day was in Mohanam and the team also performed few krithis as per audience request. The video clipping of Mr Bala tells the success story of this concert.

Sathya's concert at Calgary - April 19, 2009

Back to back concerts are always difficult particularly when it involves long air travel. Yes the artists traveled from Montreal to Calgary and after just few hours of rest presented a good concert which was well appreciated by all in the audience. Mr UdayThakor was in particular on the appreciation and blessings received by Sathya from Mr Mahindra Patel ho is considered to be a good musicologist working in The University of Calgary.

Sathya for the first time attempted to elaborate Dwajavanthi raaga aalapana and Sathya was so happy to have got applause not only from the knowledgeable audience but also from his mentor and uncle Embar Kannan right on stage. While there was graceful Charukesi from Sathya & Kannan, Poongulam Subramaniam was at his best all throughout and in particular in Thani avarthanam. The pattern he played for Akilandeswari was really appreciated as he brought in feel of Tabla for this song. Here is the video clipping link of the concert, thanks to Ms Arthi, student of Embar Kannan, who had helped in recording these clippings.

The RTP on ragam Sumanesaranjani was the highlight of the concert with Pallavi lines being "Vaa Guha Muruga Shanmuga - Valli Manla Vadivelava". The ragamalikla kalpanaswarams on Reethigowla, JOG, Shanmugapriya and Priyadharshini alternatively by Embar Kannan & Sathya with Sathya playing all the ragams on the reverse before concluding with a good korvai on Sumanesaranjani. The team work on this piece was very much appreciated by one and all.

Concert at Montreal April 18, 2009

It was a new destination, new ambiance and a new concert for Sathya. With Embar Kannan and Poonglam Subrmaniam Sathya did a good presentation and which helped him to establish in the minds of the large turn out of audience inspite of the fact that the major Football tournament at National level was on. Mr Gopi Menon and the host Dr & Mrs Krishnamoorthy had arranged for a grand dinner and all went well once again with a grand standing ovation for Sathya's team. Mr Alex 7 Alex had given a perfect PA system for the audience but the stage monitors were not sufficient for the artist. Its Almighty's grace the concert became a successful one.

Given above is the link of the main krithi Palinchukamakshi and the impressions of a elderly rasika couple.

Concert at Austin on April 12, 2009

It was another hard day for the team of Sathya as they slept late on April 11, 2009 after returning home late and had to wake up at 330 am as the flt to Austin was via Chicago which was to depart at 6Am. The team arrived around 230pm at Austin concert venue and after having a sound check with Mr DAN the engineer, performed a good concert with a local vidwan Sri Surya KSubramaniam (mrudhangam student of Sri M.V. Hariharan) who joined us on the kanjeera. Sri Nagarajan and his wife were so happy to have organised this concert as they said they were planning same as suggested by Sri Ravikiran, couple of years ago. Great ashirvadham for Sathya indeed!

It was a two hour concert and the team's presentation was well received and appreciated by a good number of audience who attended. Sri Surya Subramaniam was thankful to Sri Poongulam Subramaniam and the rest of the artist team for having him perform for this concert. After the concert Sri Nagarajan, the organiser informed that he would try and promote Sathya's fusion concepts too as lec-dems in Universities in Austin during the future visits as he mentioned that Austin is one of the musical capital of USA.

LearnQuest Boston concert on April 11th, 2009

It was a good 30 mts we took for the sound check and it did help us with the outcome of the 90 mts concert which was very well appreciated. It was a huge stage and Mr Marc Rossi, Professor in Berkley University was all praise for Sathya's efforts in bringing out the nuances of carnatic music on keyboard as he himself has performed in many fusion concert with lots of Indian artists. The way audience showed interest to see Sathya and greet him told us on the success of the concert and the highlight was that Suraj, a 10th Grade student in Boston showed interest to learn some tips from Sathya when he was taken to his house by his father. Embar Kannan and Poongulam Subramanian appreciated Sathya for the kalapramanam he had played for the krithis and also for the timing sense in finishing a concert.

Concert at Portland for Rasika - Portland on April 04, 2009

It has been a dream come true situation for Sathya as he is actually now in USA for a concert tour. Yes thanks to Smt. Bhargavi Sundararajan (who had first planned his tour in 2007), Smt. Kala Iyer and efforts of Late Coimbatore Sri. C. R. Gopinathan, this has become a reality now. Sathya is scheduled for week end concerts from the April 04th till May 31st, 2009. The team of Sathya with Sri Embar S. Kannan & Sri Poongulam Subramaniam are reached Portland on the 3rd April at 12noon and did a lec dem at "Intel" at 4:30pm which was indeed a miracle, considering the jetlag and the time difference! Yes it all was possible just because of the Almighty's grace!

The concert on the 4th April'09 was at Performing Arts Center, Portland and it was indeed well attended & well received. The success of the Sathya's efforts to play the nuances of Carnatic on keyboard was knon when Sri & Smt Jayanthi Raman were so appreciative and promised to invite Sathya to Portland as and when possible. Smt Raman went on to say that, "I don't like the presentation of Carnatic of keyboard and had accepted to host this only for the sake of good accompanying team. I was ecvcen sceptical in attending the lec-dem and having attended same ensured i attend the concert also. I can really surprised that i was only hearing Veena & Mandolin from Sathya's Keyboard and not the disturbing electronic tone. Sathya has a great future and we will surely extend our support in all ways." Well it is indeed a great statement coming from a person who herself is a seasoned Bharathanatyam exponent and a student of vocal music under Sri Maharajapuram Santhanam. The team was also trilled when they got a standing ovation after the concert was over with real appreciation

The list of krithis rendered during the evening is as follows:

01. Varnam - Aboghi - Adi
02. Sri MahaGanapathey - Gowla - Misrachapu (OR & S)

A concert to be remembered for ever. RR Sabha 26th Jan'09

It was indeed a great recognition for Sathya and the instrument Keyboard, having got an oppurtunity to perform in this prestigious forum which had a line up of Sri Sanjay Subramaniam, Sri TM Krisna, Smt Sowmya, Smt. Nithyashree Mahadevan, Smt. MalaChandrasekar, Sri Sakethraman and Hyderabad Brothers. The link of a review posted in a forum says it all and this is a greater recognition that Sathya & the instrument has received with the performance. The reviews says it all and it is as in teh following link:

Re: RR Sabha Annual Music Festival (2009) in Kolkata
Sri. K. Sathyanarayana’s keyboard concert was a first of its kind in Kolkata. As I was entering Tyagaraja hall, my friend remarked “sound check er shomoy jaa nattai baajaalo, taa awshaadharon!” - tui kintu miss korlee… turns out that I had missed the varnam (sri raga) as well! Those who couldn’t make it early were left to rue as to what might have been. Regardless, yours truly was all eyes and ears from Gajavadana (sriranjani; S) onwards. The eighth grader from Padma Seshadri fulfilled audience expectations, acquitting himself very creditably in the company of Sri. S. Venkatakrishnan (violin), Sri. T.K. Karthik (mridangam), Sri. Hariharasubhramaniam (ghatam AND morsing) and his father and mentor Sri. T. Krishnababu who compered the proceedings. Sathya proceeded to play chandram bhaja (asaveri), tolijanma (bilahari; R,S), dudukugala (gowla) and visalakshi (kasi ramakriya; S) in succession, highlighting their musical richness. The tonal contrast between the keyboard and the violin was striking and bass effects were very enjoyable. Major effort went into the interpretation of dinamani vamsa (harikamboji; R,S,T) and it garnered the artistes a standing ovation after the tani avartana. Sabhapatikku (abhogi) preceded the RTP in shanmukhapriya (khanda triputa). A ragamalika (chinnanchirukiliye) and a ragatalamalika (excerpts from his album vatapi to vandemataram) were featured in the early and later segments, respectively. Sathya has said that he wants to be a “complete musician” – words that struck a chord in our hearts as he played the lines “suhaasini, su madhura bhaashini, sukhadaam varadaam maataram, vande maataram!”

The audio of this concert can be heard in in the link : http://www.sangeethamshare.org/sathya/024_Jan2609_CCU_RRSabha/
A great concert trip and hope Sathya gets more and more oppurtunities like this in the future..

Sathya in Thiruvaiyaru for the 2nd year.- 15Jan'09

It was indeed a great oppurtunit to any one to perform at the Aradhana festival of Saint Thyagaraja and more so to perform on the Vakulapanchami day which was on the 15th Jan'09 this year. Sathya got to perform 15 mts from 445 - 5pm and it was indeed a good presentation as said by many of the audience. Sincere thanks to well wishers who had turned up there surprisingly. To name a few, Sri Rajkumar from Chennai Pothy's, Sri Ravichandran from Coimbatore, Mr Raj from Mangalore and many more.

There was good ambience with large audience turnout and a good PA system which went well with the enhancement artists Sri Villiwakkam Raghuraman on violin, R. Sankaranarayanan on Mrudhangam and Mayavaram Balaji on Kanjeera to team up with Sathya to give a good presentation. The team played SamajaVaragamana - Hindolam, Durmagachara - Anjani both being audience choice and InthaSowkamu - Kaapi being Sathya's choice. Looking forward to continuous oppurtunity year after year in this forum and thanks to Sri Vasu, relative of Sri Raghuram for having hosted us in Thiruvaiyaru with great hospitality.

Park Copncerts for Chennai Sangamam on 12th & 14th Jan'09

Sathya got oppurtunity to perform in this year's Chennai Sangamam conducted by Tamizh Maiyam in coordination with the Government of TamilNadu for two occasions. The first one was in heArtbeat Ensemble on the 12th at Thiru Vi ka Park in Valasaravakam which had huge audience and we were so happy to see a general crowd taking our type of music. Embar Kannan gave a detailed raga aalapana on Rathipathipriya and Sathya gave his turn on Vanaspathi. The way Ghatam Dr Karthick has been handling the presentation is worth mentioning and his singing has also improved leaps & bounds.

The second one was at Tower Park, Anna Nagar on the 14th Jan'09 morning 6:30 - 7:30am which had a good response with most of the audience in the category of Upper Class. As Sathya was performing with Karaikal Venkatasubramanian on the violin, Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam, HariharaSubramanaian on Ghatam and Krishnababu on Thalam, rain started pouring and the team had to rush up packing the instruments after about 40 mts of the concert duration. Looking forward to continued oppurtunity in the coming years too from Chennai Sangamam.

Padma Sarangapani Concert - A grand one on the 6th Jan'09

It was indeed a special concert for the reason that this was fixed a year before when Sathya performed for Padma Sarangapani Cultural academy, Villiwakkam during the last year musi festival. So nice of Sri Varadhan, Chairman, Padma Cultural Academy to have featured Sathya in their series for this year festival. This year it was at Virugambakkam and was in line with one among his best concerts.

Sathya was very much blessed to be lined up in a music series with Great Musicians like Sri. T.N. Seshagopalan, Sri Shashank, Sri Sikkil Gurucharan, Sathya's guru Kum. A. Kanyakumari and Udaylur Sri JKalayanaraman's Namsangeerthanam. It is indeed a great blessing for Sathya to have got the oppurtunity to perform at the Sri Panjamuka Anjaneyar Music Festival series as his first concert for the year 2009 for 2 hrs from 7 - 9 am. The team of Rajeev on violin and Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhnagam were there together on the 01.01.2008 for a private concert. However this was a public concert and also had D.V. Venkatasuramaniam on the Ghatam. It was really a divine atmosphere with few knowledgeable audience around who appreciated every krithi rendered. Performing at this place is always blessings and it was indeed great to do so as your opening concert for the new year 2009. It was nice of the secretary Sri Ramasamy uncle to ask my amma to sing two songs and she sang very well too. You can listen to teh audio in the following link:

A good finish to 31 December 2008

It was indeed a good way of finishing the year 2008 with a concert Sathya had performed for heArtbeat Ensemble in Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium for Brahma Gana Sabha in the morning.
