28th Jul 2006 Sathya at the Anusham Chamber Concert Series

Sathya performed on the 2nd day of the 2nd Anniversary of "Anusham Chamber Concert Series" conducted by Veenai Vidwan Sri Rajesh Vaidhya at Sri Ramakrishna Kalyanamandapam, # 18 Rajunaicken Street, West Mambalam, Chennai - 33 from 27 - 30th July 2006.
It is to be mentioned that Sri Rajesh Vaidhya and team has put up a grand show for this event with many programmes for the four day function. The most interesting of all is the Photo Exhibition of rare photos of Periyava - a collection of Sri Photo Kannan which is excellent. This video links shows the rare photos and the mohana varnam performed. http://tinyurl.com/ncpgy
Sathya today started off with Mohana Varnam doing 3 kalams in one avarthanam i.e. Madhyama kalam, thisra kizhkalam followed by Thisra melkalam in two speeds for pallavi and anupallavi follwed by madhaymakalam for charanam. It is to be mentioned here that this style of playing mohana varanm was taught by Annathakrishnan to Sathya and this was the first time they performed this piece together. He then went on to perform Sri Gananatham a Kanakangi keerthana with crisp kalpana swara prayogams well matched by Anathakrishnan on violin, Suriyaranarayanan on mrudhangam and Chandrasekara Sharma on ghatam.
Third song was Thaye thripura sundari on ragam Suddha Saveri set to Kanda Chaapu. Oothukadu Venkatakavi's Balasaramurali on keeravani followed with brief alapana with the essence of the raga by the both Sathya and Anathakrishna. GNB's composition Sri Chakra raja nilaye on Sivasakthi presented by the team carried great applause from the audience and so was Mythrim Bajatha - a composition of Periyava. Sathya went on to elobarate ragam Madhyamavathi which was presented well by Anathakrishnan also for the krithi Palinchu Kamatchi. It had a brisk paced kalpana swaram and due to the shortage of time the percusion utilised every oppurtunity prevailed in the krithis to showcase their talents while making sure they did not disturb the main artist.
Sathya rounded off the concert with Thamburi meetidharo, Srichakraraja Simhasaneswari (thanks to raikapriya.net members) and Lalgudi sir's thillana on ragam Jonpuri. Sathya felt very much the ashirvadhams of Periyava in the form great appriciation form the knowledgeble audience present.
