Sathya performed for Kartik Fine Arts today 27th Oct'06 with Parur Ananthakrishnan on violin and Srivanchiam Sriram on Mrudhangam. Sathya started the concert with Viruboni - Bhairavi atathala varnam followed by Vallaba on Begada which was a first attempt. A short ragaalapana was followed by the krithi and the kalpana swaras were on perfect placement. Being a maiden attempt it was indeed good presentation.
Sathya went on to perform vitaja ladhura - a krithi on Janaranjani with apt speed. The raga alapana of Mohanam was a neatly presented by both Sathya and Ananthakrishnan and Sriram gave a good percusion support for the song Pahimam Parvathi set to Rupaka Thalam. The team had a good number of audience inspite of heavy rain and were blessed with the presence of two of the cheif guests of Carnataka Sangeetha Sabha inaguaration namely Sri Subramaniam a ordent carnatic music rasika and Sri T R Balakrishnan - Inventor Balaveenai. When Sathya announce dthe composer of Mamavasadha on Nattakurinji as Sama Sri Balakrishnan corrected him and infmd that it was a Swathi Thirunal Krithi which was very pleasing to the ears.
The main ragam for the day was Shanmugapriya with Saravanabhava ennum Thirumanthiram being Sashti day and Sathya gave an elaborate alapana. Ananthakrishnan coming from the traditional Parur family of vidwans gave an equally emphatic alapana. Sathya presented ragamalika in kalapanaswara with valaji, kalyani and bandhuvarali and each one was a jem flowing from the fingers of the artists. Sriram gave a commandable support through out and won appreciation for his crisp and effective thani.
The lighter section was with Enna Kavi padinalum - Neelamani, Kaliyuga varadhan - Brindhavasaranga, a soothing Jagadhodharaka in kaapi and Mythrim bajatha. Sathya concluded the concert with Swathi Thirunal's thillana Geetha dhuniku on ragam Dhanashree and the team left with satisfaction of having performed a good concert.
It was nice to see mix of young and aged rasikas attending this concert and it is indeed a good sign for the carnatic msuic forum in general.
