Jugalbandhi on Keyboard - Brahma Gana Sabha 20th Feb'07

It is indeed for the first time ever this concept was happening. Thanks to the thought of Sri A Natarajan, former Director Doordharshan Madras, who had this idea and staged it for Brahma Gana Sabha on 20th Feb'07 at Narada Gana Sabha. Yes, a Jugalbandhi on keyboard - may be a lighter subject today but indeed a history was created with Carnatic on Keyboard Sathya and Hindustani on Keyboard Adithi joined together and performed a show.

With Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan on Mrudhangam and Ganesh Rao on Tabla the team of 4 gave a good presentation which had a august gathering with Padmashree Sri Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti and Sri Natarajan to name a few. There were also artists, press and rasikas and a sincere thanks to each one of the audience who had turned up here.

Starting with Hamsadwani raga alapana the duo of Sathya and Adithi gave a brief alapana in thier own style of music and then after playing the pallavi of Vaathapi Ganapathim went on to explore their kalpanai for the swara elaboration.

It was then a individual session with Sathya performing detailed raga - Nagumomu on Aberi followed with swaram which was uplauded by one and all. Adithi took up Beemplas the similar colour of raga and made alapana and played gat with kalapanaswaram receiving appriciation from all.
Then the duo took up Hindolam - Malkouns combination as the main to play a popular phrase. Both gave a great presentation of the raga alapana and exhibited their manodharma. Both Suriyanarayanan and Ganesh Rao gave excellent enhancement with their style of playing their instruments and also gave a crisp thani.
The concert concluded with a brief expansion of Desh raag aalapana followed by Vandhey Matharam. It was indeed a great presentation by the team considering the fact that the team rehersed for just 2 hours due to paucity of time. I think we can look forward to more such concerts in future.
